Mine vibrates in silent. The P500 has 5 LG-installed buttons at the top of the pull down notification screen. The far left one is silent/vibrate - it should work?

You should also check the 'vibrate' menu setting in 'Settings' then 'Sound' Maybe yours is set to vibrate never?

I checked the pull down menu as you describe and the sounds menu [set to vibrate on in silent mode] and it still won't vibrate on an incoming txt !

What firmware is your handset ?

Go into messaging, and check the notification settings there. Make sure its set to "Always vibrate" here too.

D'oh ! yes that sorted it, one needs to have vibrate ticked on the messaging menu even though vibrate was turned on everywhere else [& I mean everywhere else]
