Hi,
I have recently acquired a motorola milestone(2.3.4), Ive been playing around with it abit and Ive noticed it possible to set up voIP on it.

What would you guys recommend as good service / way to get cheaper calling? (over data wifi/3G)
-A local number would be preferable, but not essential.
- Im on vodafone prepay at the moment, so I would be doing this over data (does voIP use alot?)
- I currently also have a google Voice account (linked to a random free US number, that I dont use).
- I would like to make cheap phone calls to NZ mobiles and landlines.
- Is skype the best solution? ( I would prefer to use android's native dailer though).

Is 2talk suitable (not 100% on what it is)?
Is a Sip based solution the best way to go?

VoIP is not a replacement for cirsuit switched calling with current 3G networks. There are too many issues with data such as handover.

2talk is a VoIP SIP provider. Depending on what codec you use data use is around 0.3-0.5 MB per minute. Skype is around the 0.3MB also. 2talk rates to mobile are 25c plus data cost. You will have clearer voice quality if you can use the G729 codec and your phone has HSUPA as well as HSDPA. Sorry can't help you on the Android side of things, I've only had experience using it on an iOS device.

Thanks for the reply, I set up 2talk tonight, and Im very impressed with it. Setup on android was very easy.
