Had this issue intermittently since the phone was new.

Huawei Ideos U8150. Got a VFNZ SIM on account card and aplan that includes data.

Symptoms:

  • Perpetually shows it's downloading MMS attachement (usually an image), but never appears.

  • Perpetually showing outgoing MMS as sending, but never sent.

Here's the apps I've tried.

  • Stock messaging app.

  • Handcent SMS

  • Go SMS

  • Chomp SMS

Identical issue with all of them

Happens whether I have phone rooted or un rooted.

Here's fixes I've tried:

  • Send myself an MMS first

  • Manually entered apn settings (in Go SMS which allows this as an override option)

  • Reset to factory defaults

  • install stock ROM from scratch (that fixed a few other issues I've had, but that's not for this thread)

    • and spent an hour each time reinstalling apps :(

Same SIM sends MMS on my old Nokia 6630 just fine. Vodafone say it's handset issue.

Any suggestions?

Solved it!

Just spoke to someone at VF, after posting this and here's what I've been missing!

I need 3G data on. Forget that I often switch it off unless I want to use it.

If you set up the APNs correctly, you can keep 3G internet data while still allowing MMS. Check some of the other threads about disabling 3G on IDEOS.
