I've read a lot of the threads on Telecom turning off their EVDO network and dates for the CDMA switch off being mid 2012, and the Evo 4G having a CDMA (Sprint USA) radio stack. Also that telecom has an ESN whitelist?

Given that the American Sprint Evo 4g has the following specs:

CDMA: 800, 1900
CDMA Data:1xEV-DO rev.A
WiMAX (4G): Yes

A) Will calls or data still work on the old Telecom network until 2012?
B) Is there any chance of it working in the future on Vodafone/2degrees when 4G is introduced?

Unsure whether telecom allows imported devices to be used on its network. If they do, then theres a chance it could work.
But as for it working on other networks, i can't see any provider introducing wimax in the near future, especially for blanket coverage.

Overall i'd say this phone is pretty much a no go for use in NZ.

Nope, due to the ESN whitelist you can't connect the phone to a Telecom account in the first place, not even for voice. All you can do is roam with an active Sprint account.

Regarding 4G, I believe that the Evo still uses CDMA for voice and text, so even if it was connected to WiMax in NZ it still would not function properly as a phone.

Telecom don't have EVDO any longer, it was shut down year.

We'll also never see a mobile 802.16e WiMAX network in NZ. Any "4G" networks will be LTE based.

Thought this was the case - but good to hear the wealth of knowledge from geekzone ;)
