I bought a "Manhattan Portable Power Bank" yesterday at PB Tech for about $33. They come with 3 attachments (including a USB connector) to allow you to charge up devices like smart phones and iPods. It's about the length and width of a credit/atm card and about 0.5 cm thick.

I used it today with my HTC Sensation at NetHui in Auckland - so the phone was always on, more or less.

When the Sensation got down to about 50% (being used constantly for most of 5 hours)....I plugged the power bank in and carried on using the phone. I disconnected it when the phone charge was back up to 80%. The portable power bank was 1/3 depleted at that point.

So it looks like (roughly), this wee device effectively gives me the equivalent of 1.5 times more battery in addition to the battery already in the phone....allowing for it charging the phone up by 30% as I was simultaneously using it for about 2 hours.

This feels like a win. No need to flick the back off the phone and re-boot. Much cheaper than buying a specific battery for this phone....and I can use it with any device that connects to 5V USB (plus the other two connectors).

Someone retweeted your picture of this from last night and I couldn't pick the size from the image. I've been using a Nokia DC-11 and it's worked quite well with my old Desire, but I've been looking at getting another unit or two. Quite like the look and size of this one. Might have call in to PB Tech and have a gander. Cheers for the info!

This one is only 1500mah. But it's also so small it's not a luggable.

I big one would be good, too, for getting through an extended period of it I needed to charge several devices. But the one I got is enough to let me thrash the phone all say and have power to spare.

But I want 5000mah one, too! :-) How was the price compared to $33?

I bought the DC-11 second hand. I had seen them at something like $80-$90 before I bought it so $33 is pretty good. It's about the same size as my phone at 113 x 56 x 11 mm, and is also 1500mAh. It's charged from a standard Nokia charger with a 2mm connector, and has both a 2mm lead and micro USB lead conveniently wrapped around the outer edge so you don't need to carry leads or adapters.

A credit card sized 5000mAh unit would be very handy indeed.

I use a Momax iPower Plus.
1200mAh, 65x55x15mm. Only has microUSB, socket in the bottom and a plug under a cover on the top. Fits straight into the bottom of my phone (DesireHD). Pretty much doubles the battery life of my phone, and as I get about 2 days of normal use from my phone's internal battery, the insurance of at least an extra day is reassuring. The DHD's battery cover is notoriously flimsy and difficult to remove/replace so this recharge battery is a godsend.

Cost $50 though, so depending on the capacity of the OP's power bank, might not be as good value for money.

The downsides are; it is microUSB only, and it can't be recharged while it is connected to the phone (piggyback charging).

Price is in USD, mine is white, but it looks identical to that. Theres often quite a few duplicates/near identical items on dealextreme. I assume this is the same, search around on there.
Mine can charge my phone twice over it seems, though im not sure how much the battery has degraded. Its still easily enough for a full charge. The 1A power socket means it charges as fast as a wall charger too when using the right cables.

Completely off topic but I do love how dealextreme provide nice high quality images for all their products! I was able to read the chipset on a data card I bought recently try doing that at ascent.
