I am new to android but am pretty sure I have read this is possible (just how easy it is, I have no idea)

Is it possible, and how, to remove the current Telstra Australia boot up and shortcuts to their services and install the Telecom/XT ones (URL shortcut to "Your Telecom", and a fancy animated boot screen)

I read somewhere I need to install the TNZ CSC but I have no idea "where I am installing that"

Any guides would be hugely appreciated

I take it you had no luck with this? I was curious to see the responses as I'd be tempted to try the boot animation on my SGS2...

I am an iPhone fan boy but I would presume flashing it with Telecom NZ firmware would do this for you?

Yeah will need to root it and load the Telecom ROM

Sometimes it's more involved than this..

I have a Desire from Aussie (Telstra), and even after rooting and putting a generic ROM on it the Telstra bootup LOGO stayed (I could shange the animation after the logo)...

I needed a further hack called "S-OFF" (Security Off) which opened up part of the filesystem that even a rooted phone can't modify so I could replace the logo in there.

The S-OFF seems to be phone specific so I can't guid through any particular process but thought this info might be helpful.

Darky rom has a tool that can change the boot animations, there also may be some apps on the market or xda forums that can change boot animations on rooted phones. However I would of expected if flashed the telecom xt kernal +pda+csc/modem them it would change the boot animations also.

If you dont want to flash firmware then root your phone, goto.xda forums and get a tool to change the boot animations, then use es file explorer or root explorer to.delete the telstra clear apk apps from the system directory after mounting it.

As I mentioned above, many phones (including my Desire) come with BOTH a bootup animation and a bootup logo (displays before the animation)... Rooting the phone often lets you change the animation only - changing the logo can involve requiring the S-OFF functionality.. (WHich may be included in what you reference above).

The point being, if someone wants to remove all the branding, sometimes rooting isn't enough.

XDA Developers have information on this....but it is non-trivial. The logo plays at a very low level of the system boot and things have to be exactly correct for it to work.

I'd live with the telco logo. It's often more hassle than its worth to change it. This is also phone / model dependent so some extent.

+1 - the branding logo (not the boot animation) is (IIRC) linked to the bootloader itself - or close to it. Get that wrong and you can brick your phone.

I looked into it on the HTC Magic a while back and decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.

I have actually removed the Telstra logo from my HTC Desire and replaced it with a Telecom Spark - it wasn't hard but it did involve a number of steps. Once the S-OFF is done you have access to the filesystem area with the file and all you do then is just replace it...

Found it in some online brand materials and converted it to the appropriate format with a utility I found somewhere... Can't remember now... I might still have it locally if anyone's interested
