Have an FV-1 Android TV box and HD videos are not it's forte.

I've used MoboPlayer, VPlayer, MX Video Player, DoubleTwist, Dice player and others and even on videos viewed on the SD card or USB 500GB external disk, there is mostly considerable 'stuttering' on playback and some times even picture breakup.

I have just read there is a video player call BSPlayer Lite which has been available on the Android market for some time.

I installed it on my Android box and it's made a noticeable difference in playback on HD videos, both streamed from my NAS via Ethernet using SW (.vob, .mp4, .mkv) or locally using HW acceleration (.mp4, .mkv)

BSPlayer Lite is not the pill to cure all ills, but it's certainly improved video playback on my FV-1 Android TV box beyond anything any of the other above listed video players have done. Viewing a 720p movie with smooth playback and audio sync have just become a reality for me and my 1GHz ARMv7 PowerVR SGX540 Android box.

So this is just a heads up for anyone looking for a video player that 'MAY' provide improvements in playback over their existing video player.

Bit more reading and testing with BSPlayer Lite and I have found a few more details.

The graphic decoding has a third way.

There is SW decoding, system hardware decoding and BSPlayer engine Hardware decoding.

I have an olde worlde Sony Ericsson X10i v2.3.3 1Ghz ARMv7 CPU but with only an Adreno 200 GPU, which is like trying to fight off a wild tiger with a wet towel.

Using BSPlayer Lite hardware decoding on the XPERIA X10i renders MKV and MP4 720p videos in such a way that it's continually 'jumping' from frame to frame, rendering the video unwatchable. Using software decoding means the video is continually playing catch up, but in a weird smooth sort of way. It is watchable, boarding on the weird though.

Sort of like the way the Martian call girl who is there to kill the president moves in the movie "Mars Attack".

So BSPlayer Lite doesn't do anything for an olde worlde XPERIA X10i

However if you have a GPU that can handle 720p HD videos or on the cusp of being able to, then BSPlayer Lite comes as a bit of a treat as it appears to be using Hardware Acceleration when streaming a video from the likes of a NAS and it seems to be able to do it reasonably well.

I have seen HW acc 'reported' on both mkv and mpv/mp4 videos being streamed from my NAS.

My Android Hardware: SP5PV210 1GHz ARMv7 with PowerVR SGX540 running Android v2.2

Using other Android video players I couldn't stream mkv or mp4 video using software decoding and get a smooth framed picture, but now streaming from my NAS with BSPlayer Lite and Hardware decoded (as it reports) at 25FPS the playback is much smoother and very watchable.

This may be something for those that have external mkv/mp4 files that they want to stream to their Android devices.

This all bodes well for BSPlayer Lite looking forward if it continues too improve.
