My Motorola Defy Works good with At&t's network. I just want to make it so when i am not using wifi i can still get fast web browsing and connectivity. The phone is unlocked and gets good signal but it only gets 2G connectivity right now.

Maybe only 2G is available where you are right now

Have you checked out the coverage map provided by AT&T?

As per John's reply, are you sure there's 3G coverage where you are? Once you establish this is the case, is the Motorola Defy you have a 850MHz model (most of AT&T new 3G coverage is in the 850MHz band these days).

Also make sure the settings is not locked to "2G (GSM) Only".

Once this is all done and cleared up, make sure you have the appropriate APN settings for AT&T:

APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: leave blank
MMS Proxy: leave blank
MMS Port: leave blank
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: default

My APN is set how At&t sent them to my phone, and there is 3G coverage for where i am at. The 2G connectivity is not checked, automatic is checked. i Believe i do have a 850 version. How would i check if i do or do not have that version.

Best bet is looking at the box - they have a sticker with the IMEI and bands.

Check the APN matches what I posted before then. Other than this, let's wait and see if anyone else post any more suggestions.

Also, you are running stock ROM, not a modified ROM?

Are you able to test 3G on another phone in the same area your current phone is in? It could be the cell tower. Might be down or something, or maybe the coverage map is inaccurate.

Maybe stop into an ATT store and have them check it out for you?

As an aside I can't see the 2G plan on ATT's site. Can you provide a link?

I am over in the US now and the wife is on ATT but with no data since prepaid data was so expensive but all she
wanted was unlimited calls so it was okay.

I needed data so am using T-Mobile's unlimited data plan.
