think you are right pricing will be much the same, looks like release sometime April so will be interesting to see if there are any specials going for Easter like the Queens Birthday ones last year.

Battery consumption is going to be interesting. The LTE S3 didn't fare very well compared to the standard S3 with its 2GB of ram.
The S4 is going to have that higher res display to power too.

If it equals the S3, then I guess I can live with that, but if it equals the LTE (i9305) model, then I'll be a little disappointed.

The S3 had far better battery management to the S2, that said the S2 was terrible as far as battery life, the S4 has 23% more battery capacity yet has to drive 4x the amount of pixels, it is a no brainer that there will need to be some major smarts tucked away in the hardware to give it a fighting chance at being hugely superior to the S3 as far as battery life goes, I expect it to be similar to the S3

Looks too similar to 'last years' model

Samsung look to have delivered the goods, nothing jumps out as a must have, the IR led could be cool imagine never having to look for the tv remote again :P

I think thats a fair call. When every other manufacturer is rolling out Keylime Pie for their current models, this phone will still be on JB. The situation is even worse if you are relying on an NZ carrier for your firmware.

jeffnz: @mattwnz strangely my battery life on S3 way better than S2 and S1 although it is bigger screen but also way bigger power wise.

The 2600 battery on S4 should help but then again it is a smartphone so when you are saying the S3 has bad battery life what are you actually comparing it to?

excuse the off topic.

I was meaning just in general, these samrt phones have poor battery life, althoug apple have done a good job with their ipads and bettery life. I do have a nokia symbian smart phone and the battery in that lasted a week, but obviously smaller screen and less powerful. I think it is more a technology problem with li ion batteries.

On topic, It is interesting that the dimensions on the s4s casing is slightly smaller and thinner than the s3, even though it has a bigger screen. I wouldn't mind it being a bit thicker if they could double the battery life, and just have a huge battery in it. I still think the s3/s4 phone pebble design looks quite nice, and has a more modern look than the more boxy note design. I am glad they didn't move to that.

Absolutely.....

Look at it this way most consumers will not buy a new device every year, lets assume they buy a new handset every two years. If I am buying a premium handset I expect a premium update process especially in a fast moving field such as mobile phones.

S2 owners didn't get 4.0 until well after the S3 was released, then the same thing happened with 4.1, now S3 owners are waiting for 4.2 update which will not happen until well after the S4 release. This staggered approach does Samsung absolutely no favours at all.

Samsung need to "copy" Apple one more time and ensure timely updates are pushed out in quick succession to Google releases and then update OS across the board of S2/Note/S3/Note II/S4.

copy apple one more time, really are you just trolling with that one?

Not sure how Android can ever follow the speed of Apple given the hands it goes through, besides this isn't new and most people understand this with Android.

I think the market is changing and more and more are updating than would have a few years ago as the technology is changing so fast.

By now we should be able to pay for stuff with NFC and your Google wallet. Android has so much software functionality but none of it materializes to anything REALLY useful imho; hovering your finger over the screen, or dual camera are all just a waste. The ecosystem needs wider implementation with other technology now.

Each one of the NZ providers has stated they are carrying it. Will we be seeing Snapdragon models here? Will the Octa have any 4G capabilities?

edit: Plug to vodafoneNZ who have confirmed to me on twitter (so it would seem) that they will have the 8 core! 1800mhz LTE with the Octa, interesting to see what markets the snapdragon will need to be used in.

I wonder if the IR blaster will make it to NZ. Other samsung tablets and phones had the feature advertised, but it only showed up in US models? The rest of the world got passed over...(see Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0)

1) What variant CPU will be the International (NZ) one?
2) Anyone know who has a downloadable version of the annoucement? I missed it.

Glad to see the physical size hasn't changed I might be able to get this after all.

Is it AMOLED after all?
