People are using cables to transfer stuff over. Last time I migrated phones I just made sure my old phone was sync'd, ran a backup for SMS, Whatsapp, some basics like that, turned the old one off and the new one on. Everything key came down over the air. I don't care about photos and such as they're all copied off anyway. Is there any good reason to do the cable thing?

Hi:

I might had missed a conformation of this..

Have any tried or can confirm if the Google Pixel 4a supplied by a North American supplier will support the B28 here in New Zealand?

That's what I traditionally do too, but thought I'd try the built-in transfer/copy this time as that was the turn-on option on the Pixel4a rather than the traditional initial "log in to your google account" thing.  Just had to plug the cable between the two phones, enter the passwords for the google accounts I wanted to transfer, and then select which items to sync (you could choose selected apps rather than all of them, and deselect categories such as photos etc).

All the messages transferred across, as did my settings for many apps. The Pixel did new installs of all the apps selected, so had to put log-in details on those apps where the info isn't stored locally, but generally did a good job. I copied across my Nova Launcher backup which had all my previous custom icons and folders and pretty much everything is up and running after about half an hour.

I think it was worthwhile and saved a few extra steps, and I've still got my old phone in case I missed anything.

(My Redmi Note is running Android 9, in case that matters. I remember trying to do the Google Automated Transfer from my Nexus 5 to my Nexus 6 and it didn't go half so smoothly).

I cant find the Amazon sale page, its showing $900 which I know is wrong, for some reason.

How long is Amazon delivery to NZ?

Amazon.com Pixel 4A product page is here, looks like Amazon are out of stock and aren't taking orders right now. I ordered 27th August, it hasn't shipped yet, but is still showing as arriving 30th Sept - I chose the second cheapest courier, who are often DHL / UPS. So I guess delivery time is 1-2 months.

Uggh, blind. Thanks Timmmay.

My Pixel 4a finally shipped today, with expected arrival 30th Sept. It shipped on UPS, I selected the next shipping option up from economy.

Pixel 4a is now "presale" on Dick Smith. Expected to ship on the 26th October.

"Orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis"

Screw it, I've ordered. > .> It's a whole month off, but it covers my anxiety/perfectionism about getting the AUS/NZ model (maybe, lol). Or maybe it'll literally be the US model just with a different charger. = w= Whatever, it's done, it'll arrive eventually.

They shove a free Kogan SIM card in with the order, but, whatever.

My Pixel 4a arrived this morning. Ordered from Amazon on Sept 16. Shipped 6 days later (via DHL). Original delivery estimated by Nov 2, updated to Oct 8 when shipped, then listed as Oct 5 until it was actually delivered today. So, barely 12 days from ordering to first smudges on the screen!

Mine is in transit with UPS but appears to be stuck in Auckland with customs.

Update - oh great, I just called and they said it's not on hold, it's been given to Aramex / Fastway. The whole reason I paid more for shipping way to avoid Aramex, so I guess now I ask Amazon to blacklist UPS for me. Hopefully Aramex give a bit more priority to the express packages, but I doubt it.

FYI with Amazon DPD packages, you can enter the tracking number into this site to get more tracking into and the local Fastway tracking number.

Wow, Aramex got a package from Auckland to Wellington and delivered in 24 business hours! I guess they do give priority to priority packages from partners like UPS. Of course Aramex left it outside the front of my house, visible from the road, beside the big "DO NOT LEAVE PACKAGES HERE" sign, but we were home and saw them.

Just doing setup now. Phone is a much nicer size in the hand than my current phone, no other observations yet.

I got an email saying my Kogan 18W USB Wall Charger with Quick Charge QC 3.0 has shipped.

Part of an order that includes...

  • 1x Google Pixel 4a (128GB, Just Black) Yet to ship
  • 1x Kogan Mobile SIM - Prepay Starter Pack Yet to ship
  • 1x 1m USB-A to USB-C Cable Yet to ship

... yeah Dick Smith probably ordered the US model instead of the AUS model, huh.
