Has anyone put a screen protector on their Desire? I bought some super cheap ones on eBay and they were useless. The stuff was thick and pretty stiff - it kept "cracking" a bit during application, and not sticking well around the edges. I've been keeping an eye on Phantom Skinz but they haven't got one for this phone yet. Apparently they can't get hold of a unit so far...

Skinomi have one. These are great protectors, I have on on my Nexus. If you are new to them don't panic about getting the small bubbles out! I did a really bad job of putting mine on but it fixed itself up within 5 days (yeah I know it sounds a lot but the phone was perfectly usable the whole time). And Zagg also have one.

I got some cheap ones off eBay as well, and they have been great. Took a while for them to get here, but overall I'm very satisfied. Fit perfectly and have no issues with them not sticking or crackling.

Bought 2 protectors off the seller, and he ended up sending me 3, so that's a plus too :P

Offline Maps

I have got offline Maps working so you can pre load a map of an area and not have to have a data connection to use it. I used Mobile Atlas Creator to select and download the maps I wanted and the RMaps app on the phone. Youtube has a tutorial on using Mobile Atlas Creator (MAC).

Read the read me in the MAC downlaod as you need to drop a sql file into the MAC folder.

Bit of dicking around but it seems to work fine so far.

Think I will wait a while before rooting my Desire. If at all.

I'll probably wait a few days/weeks before attempting that.

According to the guide, it appears you need both a Windows AND a Linux or Mac. I only have Windows lol...

I'm still reading the massive thread on Rooting, I won't wait long, but I will at least see a few more reports before I jump in.

I figure I'll just set up a partition on my Windows 7 machine for booting into Linux, from the sounds of it Paul O'Brian is saying that it won't be possible to make the whole Root process run from Windows (although it will be possible from OSX and Linux soon).

Re Screen Protectors - I haven't used them on any of my capacitive screened phones (i8910, HD2, Desire). None of those screens got scratches, and my Desire hasn't yet either. Providing you don't keep keys in the same pocket, or throw the phone in sand or something daft, capacitive screens are very durable.

Ah, even better, I see you can download an Ubuntu LiveCD - just pop it in your drive and restart your computer - it'll run Linux from the disk without any of the hassles of installation. Anyone else considering this make sure to use a 32Bit Linux distro.

Oh nice, I'm assuming this should answer my query with regards to requiring both a Windows and Linux computer? :)

i heard on the market that "My Backup Pro" is a great app for backing your apps, sim etc online but $5 us dollars. Surely soon one can transfer a app to the memory card. When you do a factory reset or firmware upgrade all is lost and back to the beginning again, annoying.
