NZtechfreak: Every smartphone I own gets hacked/modded/flashed

Haha I know what you mean :P My N95 8GB is cracked and modded, opening up unsigned apps galore, my K800i and W810i have both been flashed and re-flashed countless times.

I'm a bit wary with the Desire at the moment because it's the first phone I've actually gotten as soon as it's been released, whereas my previous phones have all been bought a year or so after they were released hehe.

If you disable the mobile network and try Wi-Fi and connect seems the internet only defaults to a mobile network connection?

NZtechfreak:

BTW, I note this morning in Paul's Twitter feed that the Rooting process is improved/easier now - there is a 10MB Linux ISO that you can use for the Linux bits! I'll probably get around to Rooting the phone over the weekend, will feedback how it goes. Fingers crossed I don't end up with an expensive paperweight :)

...good luck mate... let us know how you get on... I'm gonna do some more reading and see how other's get on and play with phone for about 1mth before rooting.... once I get it...

Perfectly reasonable, its a great phone out of the box, you won't feel hugely pressured to Root it early on. I'm mostly wanting to try out a bunch of the higher quality graphics games, which means you pretty much MUST have app2sd (and I'm just like with my devices).

NZtechfreak: GameBoid is great eh!

hell yeah!  so many good  memories flooding back - mario kart has come a long way also (we play mario kart ds daily at work)

NZtechfreak: I use Vignette too - I wouldn't use it over the inbuilt camera app though - you can import any of the pictures you take in the inbuilt app and then apply all the effects.

How is Jewellust?

Jewellust is fun - addictive,  reminds me a lot of bejewelled (funny enough)

NZtechfreak:   Oh, meant to say that I'm a GRemote Pro user too - purchased it for my HD2 because I could bring the license over to Android. Excellent program - although I note if you want to confine yourself to say just controlling WinAmp, there are free ones available in the market.

Great program for sure!  Worked out a lot better than i thought it would and is super responsive... no more trying to use the mouse on the couch fabric and it wigging out all the time :P

awesome

...been reading about the Rooting process... been following Paul @Modaco on twitter and he's got a new easier method now and all from windows OS (still involves running linux virtual machine)... some people have run into problems and @PaulOBrien 'out of the office all day tomorrow on a top secret mission... so no updates until next week probably! Then the fun starts again, heh!' ....

I'm still getting to grips with my Desire (loving it so far though), so maybe this is really straight forward but...

When my phone is charging the profile seems to change. I noticed this because my notification tone was different, and when I checked all of my other tones were also different to the custom tones I'd set. Is there a way to turn this off? Is there a list of profiles somewhere along with power options (which I'm assuming is what's driving this)?

Yes, I've seen this too... I may wait a little longer. Too few feedbacks on the Rooting process to tell whether those who have had problems are muppets, or whether the process isn't completely solid yet...

From my understanding, there are no individual profiles for ringtones (like on almost every other phone brand). I may be wrong though.

With regards to the problem you're experiencing, I haven't noticed anything like that with mine :)
