All you guys using A2SD+, how is the overall system performance/responsiveness? I'm on Froyo A2SD because I heard A2SD+ also moves the Dalvik cache, and theoretically that should slow down things because the SD card is much slower than the internal flash...

I found no slowdown, but I made sure to buy a decent class 6 micdoSD card

I've never used the Froyo Apps2SD, so I can't really compare for you, but I really haven't noticed any slowdown/lag with Apps2SD+

Just being able to install EVERY APP onto the SD card (and not be restricted by the app's developer) is a huge bonus for me.

But I haven't had any problems with Apps2SD+ :)

I'm using a Transcend Class 6 MicroSD card (16gb) here and no slowdown too :)

Deadpool: Rooted and upgraded to 2.2 now wasn't that hard just took awhile to confirm I had everything cheers Giggs, now i just have to find out what applications to use on it

I bought my Desire from PI Auckland as a T-Mobile branded phone. I got sick waiting for an official update and read the the T-Mobile updates were going to be behind most others... so, I plunged in created a gold card, rooted the phone and updated with LeeDrOid's custom ROM.

It's so good to have a rooted phone. Much more you can do with it. Better backup options and you can install apps/tools that need root access (like ShootMe - to take screenshots, Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, etc...) and really start customising the phone.

I don't know about the other custom ROMs out there but this one comes with Brut maps (dunno if it's a hack or what) that enable Google Navigation worldwide (yes, here in NZ too). Yay! You can even set it so it caches the google maps and reads from cache.

One snag I hit is I didn't update to the new Radio and video recording was crashing and rebooting the phone. This was fixed after Radio update.

The process is not exactly for the faint of heart but me is a happy camper now :).

Welcome aboard, phluxOr :) And yes, I totally agree with you. Rooting the phone unlocks the full potential of our Desires :D

I haven't tried Brut Maps in a while now, but an earlier build I installed about 3 months ago wasn't particularly great. The voice instructions were always late, and I found I had either already turned or missed a turn before it decided to prompt me. Have you experienced this problem? Fingers crossed that the more recent versions of Brut Maps fixes this! :)

Um, I only did this on Sunday so not really played around too much apart from trying it out when I went for a coffee run the other day. Seemed fine, told me I was home before I got there ;). In any case, it's better than no nav at all.

I'm still a bit new to this but I learn fast.

I'm running Brut Google Maps 4.4.0-brut16 without the issue of the voice instruction being late.

There looks like there might finally be a fix soon if you like to precache maps (using Mobile Atlas Creator). To quote Brut.All from yesterday

"I go on holidays and have tried to precache some tiles using Mobile Atlas Creator. As you all say X and Y are swapped and Z is one point bigger. I've modified one line of code in GM and now I could use tiles downloaded by MAC instantly - just copy files to sdcard and that's all. Shame on me that I didn't do that earlier, so you had to write some scripts, modify code of precachers, etc. :-/ I was thinking I will release completely new caching mechanism soon and I didn't want to break compatibility with already cached tiles, so I decided to wait a little. But time passes and we don't have that new caching, so I should add some fixes to old one. I will do that right after I will be back."

@phluxOr: Hello, and welcome aboard from a fellow LeeDrOiD user! :)

@RevoWution: Yes Google Navigation is still glitchy here in NZ, which is why I guess one of the reasons why it's not yet launched officially here. (Plus, the maps are pretty dated.) For some reason CoPilot hasn't worked for me since I've gone to Froyo, (SD card issues perhaps?) but Google works decently enough that it can be used on a day-to-day basis. Yes the voice guidance is still a bit buggy (no lag but the instructions can be wrong at times) which is why I rely more on the visuals.

Btw, I got tired of seeing all the "running low on space" messages, so went ahead and bought a Transcend class 6 microSDHC, formatted it with FAT32/ext3 and Apps2SD+ works great on it! Performance seems to the same or even better (maybe because of the new ROM?). So thanks guys for the feedback. Definitely sticking with A2SD+ unless Google comes out with a better implementation (maybe in 3.0!).

Oh and if you're a LeeDrOiD user who installed their ROM like a week ago or earlier, check out the new version (1.8c)! Comes with the latest final build of Flash 10.1, latest Voice search updates, better performance and more!

@Mudwiggle & D3Xt3r: Thanks for your prompt responses :) I think I'll give Brut Maps another go. The MoDaCo online kitchen I bake my ROMs at has added an option to include that as the default Maps app, so might give that a go tonight!!

@D3Xt3r: Yup, I have the same issue as well since updating to Froyo. From what I've read, it appears it's a problem on CoPilot's end. A shame really, as I really like CoPilot. Worked very well for me on Eclair :)

Ok it now appears that my phone thinks it's a Nexus One, and not a Desire. Pre-2.2, if I went to Settings --> About phone --> Phone identity, the Model number was an "HTC Desire".

Someone over at MoDaCo raised this issue, so I decided to check mine to see if I had this problem. I now have a "Nexus One" lol. Could anyone running stock, unrooted 2.2 check for me and see if their phones have confused their identities as well?

Lol if this is a Google/HTC bug, then it's shocking! :o

It's bad enough that the "embarrassed" emoticon has issues, and now this haha...
