DFSW: Ok think I need some help on this one.

My phone has stopped charging either with the plug adapter or plugged into the PC..drivers also don't install.

It comes up with "use supported charger" oslt

I did get it to charge off the PC last night by wiggling the usb cable...

Its also randomly going into dock/car mode when plugging in the usb cable.

I first thought it was because it was rooted and running ARHD 10.1 so I have gone back to stock 4.2.2 I'm also running TRWP recovery

So Im now suspecting the usb port is faulty, so I need to return this back to stock and un root it.

So after investigating it looks like I need to relock the bootloader which I'm confident I can do but the tutorials I've seen call to get a RUU but they only seem for specific carriers.

I'm with vodafone any help would be greatly appreciated, I have tried all the steps of rebooting, wiping dalvik/cache etc, checked usb port for dirt, changed usb cables, plug adapters and different PC's and laptops.

My phone had the same issue and I returned the phone and got a new one.

Was stock so rooting hasn't caused it. A couple of mates had the same issue one had rooted it and the other one didn't.

True did your mate that was rooted, unroot etc and return it or just gave it back rooted?

He gave it back rooted from what I know. They can't prove that rooting the device caused the issue ad he knows his CGA well. This was a hardware failure which also happened on a stock device so root can't be blamed for it.

bradstewart: That's right. I've seen 6+ before but this was pretty damn good.

So like I've posted about previously, with many many battery stat logs to accompany... my never reaching 3 hours screen time might be indicating I have a bung battery and should return it?

I run with battery saver on all the time, never make even 3 hours screen time in a 14-15 hours off charge from 100%. I mostly use whatsapp / texts / email / twitter / reddit, have it on 3g most of the day at work with wifi at home.

Surely if you're getting such drastically different results my unit is faulty?

If you're running 4.2 you need to go Settings >  About > Software > More and then tap Build Number 7 times to enable Dev Settings.

It's possible it could be a faulty battery.

But also remember the more apps you have running like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp etc the less your battery will last. This is turn will impact how much screen time you can get.

99% of battery issues are app related.

Would something as simple as restarting the phone when you take it off charge in the morning help? Get rid of all background apps and processes..

I haven't read all the posts but battery life can get quite emotive and usually based on perceptions and also what others get when we all use our phones differently.

2 - 3 hours battery life for me is fine given how I use my phone and also the fact they have big screens, fast processors etc etc.

I don't think you have a fault with either phone or battery and would only compare battery times with someone that has same apps running, same setup and uses it exactly the same otherwise its not relevant.

If you follow the BBS thread on XDA you will see most are trying to find battery Nirvana which doesn't exist and if they spend all their time worrying about battery life they should have a dumb phone.

heavenlywild: ^ Or you just need to re-calibrate your battery.

Wait until you are down to 5% or so, then fully charge the battery to 100%. Do this for a few days and hopefully it works out for you.

NO! Batteries only need "calibrating" every 40th full cycle. And to keep a longer battery life, they shouldn't be discharged below 10%. In fact, it's better to top them up any time you are near a charger!

I would tell you but the backlights on mine work very intermittently, common fault for the earlier produced ones. Thought the 4.2 update might fix it but it doesn't.

IIRC correctly the light was quite a bright blue.
