Lipex666: Adding to bradstewart best thing I did was go with viper ROM with ElementalX 2.2 kernel plus all the customisations double tap to wake up the phone I have never seen a ROM with so much and nearly all done on the fly.

I'm still using the stock kernel. How do you find Elemental?

Mainly went to that so can do double tap wake home screen and the aroma installer works well, there is some double up on some viper features. Battery seems the same only one day so far and this kernel can be under or over clocked and just complemts this ROM.. It feels very fluid and just love it plus the live wallpaper from the Google One and the viper theme just awesome.

Taiwan model is now getting OTA. I would guess our models won't be far behind.

It'll be a while, they need to go through carrier approval first. The Taiwan one is for their unbranded variant.

Active GPS navigation with mobile data and the screen on full time uses heaps of power. Unless you're using the HTC car kit, staying at the same battery level when those are on is pretty much the best you'll do.

Sucks. I get the same plugged in directly to USB , if I'm playing a game I'm losing more power than gaining lol. I guess USB 2 just isn't pushing enough for modern phones? I hear USB 3 is supposed to be different.

So if I bought a belkin fast charge smartphone adapter for the car it might be a different story? How do they get more power out, thought it'd be limited by the car not the adapter?

Might grab one of these today http://www.htc.com/nz/accessories/htc-battery-bar/ this way I can actually use the phones advertised features and not have it run flat in half a day... (Went to the aquarium and took lots of photos... Battery gone in 6 hours full to 0.)

I'd gladly have the device a little thicker for more battery life :(

I may be wrong, but I believe charging speed is throttled when the phone is under intense use (gaming and GPS navigation are the main times) in order to keep the heat down, both for hand comfort and to go easier on the processor. Graphically intensive games heat up the phone quickly, and once you add charging to the mix, it's too much heat and your processor power and charging speed will be throttled.

Keep in mind that if I take my DSLR camera to the aquarium and use it to shoot video and stills for half a day, its battery will be dead too. So the battery bar is a great idea.

Ah yes that makes sense on the charge throttle.

I had a charging case for my iPhone4 which was often very handy, it gave about 70% charge from flat- the battery bar can apparently do two full charges which is very cool.

I'm more sold on a battery bar than the idea of a charging case, since those are usually obscenely huge, was wondering tho if the htc brand one is best bang for your buck or if I should look for a different brand? I see a couple advertised at similar prices with a lil more capacity but I'm not sure how charge time and device life would compare.

The ROMs are a little smaller so I'd think there will be a slight increase in storage.

But I still think people would be better off with something like CM10.1 over a GPE ROM.

From my understanding the GE roms being discussed on xda are derived from a pre-release/review handset and have a couple of glitches like broken tethering which is a deal breaker, should be sorted once final people start receiving their proper GE handsets

I'm interested because I'm tossing up between the S4 and the HTC One, I currently have an S3 and get constantly annoyed at the internal storage because it is difficult to move game to the external SD (requires root). I'm wondering whether an HTC One would have enough storage once GPE roms that repartition the internal storage come out. I know the S4 GPE has ~3gb more room (so 12gb instead of 9)

I think the fact that there is no separate SD card makes the utilisation of the existing space even more crucial! I'd like to have a fairly decent set of music (10gb) as well as a large number of games and applications.
