Finch: Hey guys

This doesn't relate to HTC One as such, but because its my device thought I would post here.

Does anybody know if a widget exists that shows you a screen shot/DVD cover of the movies/videos you have stored on your phone. Just having a look around XDA and I came across this.. (Scroll down, its the second post that is quoted)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156825&page=94

On his 3rd and 4th Screens you can see It is showing his library/upcoming shows.

I want something like this except I want it to be a Horizontal scrollable widget, while also saying the name of the video if possible (Although not bothered if it doesn't say the name)

The inbuilt Youtube widget does what I want, except that is going vertically zig-zaggy

Would be greatly appreciated if somebody could please point me in the right direction.

If I get nothing here I'll post it over at XDA

Thanks :)

Does series guide not offer that? Does XBMC have a widget?

Wade: I thought I would give a GE rom a whirl so flashed Android Revolution HD GE last night. Initial impressions are good, not sure I will go back to Sense, I use the IR blaster and Zoe cam regularly so losing these two features could be a deal breaker. There is rumour that the upcoming 4.3 update will offer IR support so who knows, Zoe cam is cool but its only software so I am sure there is or will be a suitable replacement app out there somewhere

This rom definitely feels a lot slicker than the stock 4.1.2 and to me the pure Google OS has a far more cohesive approach which adds to the premium feel of the device

I am downloading that as we speak. I want quick toggles dammit. I never use Zoe or Blinkfeed so it seemed a good idea...

Basically once I backup my apps, I just go into recovery and flash it right? It'll wipe what is existing and then I can restore my backup?

This was the first time i have played around with an HTC phone so was a bit of a learning curve..

Phone was already S-OFF so unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP, make a backup of my stk 4.1.2 rom just in case, then flashed ARHD GE through TWRP recovery

I don't worry about backing up my apps etc as I find my usage changes over time and i end up with too many apps installed i never use, so wiping and reinstalling everything is a good way fore me to keep things clean and organised

I don't think the GE toggles are that fantastic so i have gone back to switch widget pro which allows you to create a customizable row of widgets within pull down menu

One feature missing with GE is flip to silent but Flip - Silent is a simple and free app that brings that feature back

Not sure if Series Guide does or doesn't. Just downloaded and then it wants me to sign up to something. I shouldn't have to sign up to something where all I want to do is view the movie cover/screen of multiple movies in widget form. As for XBMC, no idea how that works. Im not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to technology.

3rd screenshot down is similar to what im talking about. Except that is going Vertical and it is showing gallery not videos

I found something, its called Photo Grid/Frame Widget that basically does what I want. It puts screen shots of a selected folder (In my case I choose movies) and you can scroll through them. You scroll through them vertically however and there does seem to be a bit of lag, not sure if its because it isn't supported for the HTC One or if its a problem with the app.

Im not sold on it though, because its laggy and because you can only scroll vertically.

Its by "Andy Wong" if anybody wants to try it out to see what im on about.

Anyone noticed how unstable USB connection is? Trying to copy photos out of DCIM folder, it copies one photo and then it stops working. Not using the HTC program, only the standard Windows File Explorer.

Tried two different USB ports (USB 3 and USB 2), same results.

Yeah, I have to disable debugging manually to get it to stay stable.

Even with debug disabled, it's really bad. Copied ten photos or so and it stops...

I didn't use the USB connection much at all.  I paired the phone via Bluetooth to my laptop and shared the photos via Bluetooth, it was simple and easy to do.

I will probably try that now and see how it goes.

If you are connected to the same wireless connection you could use AirDroid

I remember mentioning something like this when we first received our phones. It was annoying but the problem has been fixed with 4.2. I copied 5GB of music this morning and it didn't skip a beat.

I hope we get 4.2 soon then. Tried Bluetooth now:

AirDroid did the trick - forgot I had this installed, thanks.

AirDroid is amazing. Need to start leaning on your contacts at Telecom to find out when they're releasing it. As far as I can tell no carriers have released it yet, it's only the WWE ones that have it.

Never had the problem myself.

But Windows 7 likes to interfere with other transfers, especially video. Window's DRM "features" cause the problem, and hacking windows to disable it quadruples transfer speeds to the HTC One, and eliminates errors.

Disabling it will also reduce CPU usage for video playback on the PC too.

Yay microsoft. Winning!
