NZtechfreak: From the latest information is it fairly likely that the networks here will give us the Snapdragon 600 version, since that is the one they are releasing in markets with 4G like the UK. I see Vodafone's 'coming soon' page has it with 4G, which seems like that means no Octa.

Not great news. I don't like the fact that this will effectively divide the dev community into even smaller pieces.
Having the model with the least amount of custom roms would be a disappointment for me personally.

May have to see how this plays out rather than jumping in on day 1.

At least with the Qualcomm you'll get some properly decent ROMs thanks to all the open source drivers and such. The CyanogenMod team is in limbo as to whether they'll bother with the Exynos based S4 for example; and if there's no CM, that's a lot of other ROMs that use it as a base gone

Any had any repairs done of their recent devices who can let me know how long repairs took and if it was easy and trouble free?

I am guessing they are going with the Snapdragon 600 in the LTE version because of battery life since LTE would chew more.

In terms of one vs the other, its a simple matter of, do you want LTE or would you rather have a faster phone.

At this stage, i actually am not sure which one. If the exynos version is Dual Carrier, i would prefer that i reckon. At least with DC i would get quite decent internet speeds for when I am not in Wifi zone (I am most of the times)

Having said that, the Snapdragon version of the S4 aint all that bad. I read a review somewhere (gsmarena i think it was) that the S4 LTE was pretty much the most powerful phone to date - with the exception of a couple of the benchmarks.

So all is not lost.

Considering the HTC One is arguably the better of the two devices, that will be cheaper $1K im guessing upon release. Seems to me like Samsung (Not sure if they set these prices or not?) is getting greedy with these prices. I wasn't interested in buying the SGS4 as I feel it only offers a few more gimmicks than my SGS3 does. Is it worth $1149 to me? Definitely not. But its the Galaxy brand so it will sell, and sell well.

Just my 2 cents

Telecom customers first in line to buy Samsung Galaxy S4

Telecom New Zealand has announced that its customers can be the first in the country to buy the new Samsung Galaxy S4 – due for release in late April - with the company opening for pre-orders of the device via its website today.

Telecom’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jason Paris said that there was a huge amount of interest in the new Samsung Galaxy S4.

“This phone has some very exciting features, and we know our customers are looking forward to putting it through its paces on our Smartphone Network. We wanted them to be at the front of the queue when the phone is released in New Zealand – and so we are opening for pre-orders early.”

The Galaxy S4 has an RRP of $1149, but will cost $0 upfront on Telecom’s 24-month $139 smartphone plan.

By securing their personal pre-ordered device at www.telecom.co.nz/galaxysivpreorder customers can pick-up their new Galaxy S4 from selected Telecom stores on the day of launch, or have the device delivered.

bit subjective that HTC one will/is better than S4. Also think initial release of HTC one at telco's won't be much differant to S4, I would think Telco's determine pricing based on their contracts but could be wrong.

@sidders80 yes it was 1049 from telco's but way cheaper elsewhere and lots of specials especially the Queens birthday 20% off so don't really think pricing is going to be an issue unless you want it from a telco

Ya you are right but that 20% was off $1049 so in the case of S4 the 20% will be off $1149 if you want the NZ ones. Interesting to see what Vodafone pricing will be.

@sidders did the prices ever go up to the telco's 1049 though my memory is rubbish but I seem to recall that mostly they didn't and settled around 949 after a couple of months.
