Still having problems with DND. It is quite convoluted compared with BP (before Pie)

I have set DND as far as I can see I want messages and calls to go through so I can see them on my watch, but I do not want audible alerts. I thought it was all set correctly when in the middle of a quiet meeting Facebook Messenger went Ping. Most embarassing. Any ideas how to let everything go to cellphone but block all sounds?

bazzer:

ronw: Another problem with Pie is DND which has been changed to the point of being useless. I used to be able to pull down screen select DND and tap the time and then done and the phone was silent for that period.Try doing that under Pie it is a nightmare

If you hold down on DND, it will open the settings. Under Schedule, you might have Duration set to something (Until you turn off, or For 1 hour etc). Sounds like you want that to be Ask every time? Then it works as you describe, click DND and you get a popup asking how long to activate it for.

I updated my 7 Plus (TA-1055) from this link a while ago

https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/development/ota-nokia-7-plus-ota-links-t3818774

And this morning the October Security update was waiting for me when I woke up.

All seems good so far.

Will be getting a dual sim version of the Nokia 7 Plus shortly, just looking up cases and screen protectors for it.

Any recommendations for this phone?

I've bought both items for my wife's 7+ from eBay and, TBH, they've all worked out well.

I bought both standard screen protectors that ones that have the black edging (that covers more of the front), and have had no problems with either type (only replaced the first one as the phone itself had to go back for a repair when it completely died!). And these were fairly cheap ones.

The one thing I found difficult to get from eBay for the 7+ was a decent case with a cover that didn't use that cheap-looking rubber to hold the phone in (often in kind-of the same colour as the case itself); for other phone models it's not been an issue.

Aliexpress has pages of cases for the 7 plus, it's my sons favourite pastime looking for cases as they start for around $2 and he has one for every day of the week.

Has anyone got pie or beyond the september security patch on a 6.1 yet?

Seems ridiculous this is supposed to be an android one phone yet it is not getting updates.

I followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78024984&postcount=47 and upgraded without any problems.

This is why Ive been asking if anyone has tried google cam on their 7.1 plus, even the 6.1 plus in low light is night and day (excuse the pun). the significant benefit here is there is no need for rooting the phone etc.

Really look forward to a 7.1 plus comparison due to having OIS. I dont feel Zeiss has been more than a branding exercise with Nokia. Not the Zeiss I know from Cameras and certainly Leica shows its class in the Huawei m20 pro (which is to be expected with 3 lenses).

All the same Im wondering if we can expect a boost for the 7.1 plus in low light. Many reviews Ive read have said its not really an improvement over the 7 plus, I hope thats not the case.

My 6.1 - a Spark-supplied phone on Spark's network - updated itself to Pie and 1st October security patches last night.

So, not quite as soon as i would have liked, but so much better than my previous (employer-provided) Vodafone / Samsung Galaxy XCover3 that was still running a November 2015 software load when I retired in September 2018. Sigh

I got my Pie update this morning on my 6.1

My phone was being a piece of junk on Android Oreo, slow, crashy, freez-y.

Feels much more fluid on 9, but we will see for how long...

Guess I'm just going to have to spend some money on a OnePlus 6T after my 3 broke.

phone packed up and bought used Pixel 2 online. while waiting bought new Nokia 7 plus.  After using both for a week, I will sell the Pixel 2.  Yes it takes great photos but so does the Nokia 7 plus.  Everyday photos I actually like the Nokia 7 plus.  If you magnify them a lot you can then see the Pixel is better otherwise very little in them.  Screen on Nokia seems a lot clearer. Never did like amoled screens and they really dont seem to have improved a great deal yet. Nokia & plus I can see screen better in bright sunlight.  Pixel being a 5 inch screen I thought would be enough for my tired eyes but its not.  A lot of little things adds up the Nokia 7 plus is the phone for me.  Pity couldnt have tried a Pixel in person before hand. Over the week Nokia 7 plus has been rock solid. Running Android 9 and December 2018 security update.
