Giggs:
When I flashed the ROM I currently have on my Desire I got an email from Google congratulating me on buying a Nexus One.  WTF I thought and when I checked the About Phone settings sure enough it said Nexus One.

When I looked at the thread I got the ROM from people had been complaining about the camera taking photos with a green tinge.  Someone posted a fix and it changed my phone to a Desire.  Apparently the problem was to do with the phone thinking it was a Nexus One.

Random.

Haha yeah it was shocking to see that my Desire had decided to think it was a Nexus One. Although I don't recall any green tinge in my photos :)

The problem appears to be a bug in an earlier build of the MCR ROM I'm running (which has since been fixed), so I just baked a newer mod, performed a full wipe and re-flashed the newer ROM. All is good again!! Except when I restored all my settings and apps via Titanium Backup, the problem came back (I presume the bug was lurking somewhere deep within a system file I had inadvertently backed up), so I wiped and re-flashed a second time, and manually re-added my apps.

Problem solved :)

kiwitrc: If you are having battery issues try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903

Thanks for that. I'll do this definitely form my main battery but I doubt it will fix the issue with the spare, however, won't hurt doing it.

Droid-Den (formerly Nimbu) is shaping up to a pretty sweet site. I might give that AutoKiller app a try.

Haven't ventured into SetCPU territory yet. I'll give that battery re-calibration tip a try first and see if that improves my battery life. If not, then I'll fiddle around with some SetCPU settings :)

Well I just jumped on the bandwagon and ordered myself an HTC Desire from mobicity.co.nz, highly recommend dealing with them! The guy sounded genuine and took an interest in my concerns.

Gonna arrive early next week! :D Can't wait to start fiddling! :)

I have been following this thread since I upgraded to Froyo. Is anyone else here having the same problem? I had to install K9 Mail in the end to make it push email work.

Does it get stuck at the "HTC - Quietly Brilliant" screen? Hmmm, strange. I've only ever heard of boot looping for people who have rooted and flashed ROMs incorrectly.

The only problem I've ever had with an abrupt shutdown was while using CoPilot pre-2.2, and wouldn't turn back on again until about 10min later. I put it down to the fact the phone was pretty scarily hot (battery) and refused to turn on because of the heat.

Haven't had any problems since :) *touch wood*

I only have one active Gmail account so I can't really comment as to whether this works or not. But I have read quite a few complaints about it around the net :)

Anyone else removed their back cover, taken a photo and noticed how the quality is far superior to a photo taken with the back cover on...?

Maybe it's the bad design of the camera casing because it sticks out so when you put your phone down on a rough surface the glass anti glare coating gets scratched and your shots get blurry.

check your camera casing glass carefully for scratches.

I ended up polishing the coating away and got the sharpness back.

I had a few problems like this.  I saw a post somewhere (can't find it now sorry) that recommended you clear the cache and the data for the Google apps, e.g., GMail, Maps, Calendar.  I had to reauthenticate but it fixed the problems I was having with those apps.

I also had problems that I think were caused by having a non-standard default behaviour for my home key (Power Strip), and it wasn't starting up the HTC launcher properly at boot time.  It kept going back to the "quietly brilliant" screen. Clearing the defaults then reassigning the HTC Launcher to the home key fixed that one.

Thanks Perrin, will give it a go today. Funny you say about the HTC launcher as this started when I was trialling LauncherPro and switcher to switch which launcher I used.

The Home Switcher app apparently isn't 100% compatible with 2.2. The problem I've found with it is that you can switch between launchers fine, but the "set as default" function is kaput.

I've stopped using it and cleared defaults myself via the Applications menu in Settings. So then, when you next click on the "Home" key, it will prompt you and ask which launcher you want to use, and which to use as default :)

LauncherPro has been my default launcher since its early beta days, and have since bought the full app and have had no problems with it whatsoever, in case you're wondering if it's the culprit here ;)
