You will also need to a flash a stock 4.1 recovery as well if you are intending on getting an OTA or returning for warranty.

Are you saying then that if you don't have a stock recovery you *won't* get OTA updates?

Correct. CWM and TWRP recoveries can't flash the OTA's. There is some signature matching involved.

The other thing you should be aware of is if you have updated the firmware on the phone (not the software) to the 4.2 version then the touchscreen will not work with a 4.1 ROM.

If you reboot into the bootloader it will tell you the hboot and os version.

If you are looking for the OTA to 4.2.2 then the easiest thing instead of restoring back would be to flash my Telecom NZ backup, it is a CWM flashable zipand all you will need for future OTA's is a stock recovery. I can also make up a flashable zip with the stock 4.2 recovery in it.

I've got it uploading at the moment but given the size (1Gb) it will take a couple of hours.

The Telecom NZ software is the same as VF AU and Optus (2.24.980.2) so you will be fine flashing that.

I had preordered a HTC One with Noelleeming the day went on their website. After people here were buying them from their local Noelleeming i rang them and they said they cant supply and would be up to 2 months so would refund. I bought Windows phone but now giving up. So spent 3 days trolling the internet and here and get conflicting reports. Here it is difficult even using search. I am torn between the S4 and this Htc One and because it is a major purchase now want one that will last me a while. I believe from reports the HTC One camera is optical stablised but S4 isnt. Those who have the HTC One are you getting good battery life. Thirdly is the 32GB memory large enough for everyday use as it doesnt have expandable memory.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

Obviously having a One I'm a little biased. But I've played with an S4 enough to know I wouldn't pick it over a One. The camera is great, it has its pros and cons which I'm sure you're aware of.

The storage thing isn't an issue. I use Dropbox so all my photos are synced to the cloud and then downloaded onto my PC. I usually delete them all from my phone after a few days. I have a large number of playlists from Google Play Music All Access stored on my phone for offline play and I'm still struggling to use more than 10Gb.

For 99.95% of people 32Gb is more than enough storage especially with very good cloud options available.

For me the choice between the One and the S4 is no choice at all. The One wins it every time.

Thanks. I liked the One when announced thats why I pre ordered. Was wondering about things since S4 released and also the fact non expandable. Only thing is the HTC One is more expensive here than the S4 but Thursday I will go to JBHiFi and pick a HTC One up providing in stock otherwise from Vodafone or Telecom

The next thing will be Google enforcing that the microphone is always on and recording, only to listen for "Okay Google" of course ;). (POPUP!! Sounds like your talking to your friends about a restaurant. How about choosing from one of these fine establishments? [ADWORDS] )

Thanks for the update on your issue Dingbat. I'm still on stock everything at the moment, but I doubt that I could have figured out the issue if I had encountered it later.

Hmmm maybe I will need to download a 4.2.2 Telecom Rom like bradstewart is mentioning as my Telecom NZ model still hasn't got the 4.2.2. update yet. Weird.

So that batch of clear cases I bought off eBay arrived last night. They were only $1.50 each shipped, so I bought 3. Not 100% sure what Im going to do with them at this stage.

Pretty decent cases, especially considering the price. They are that sort of glossy plastic that scratches really easily, but I havent done anything major yet. Because of the type of plastic I feel like this case would be more likely to snap than the Nilikin one that I have - which is more of softer plastic which chips and dents instead of cracking. Its really nice to see my phone again though, and not having to worry about minor scuffs etc is a great benefit.

Spigen cancelled my order after i pointed out their 2 star rating on Amazon, although i'm still yet to find a case that looks as good as they do IMO (clear, frosted, slim). I currently have a "Rock" case on my phone that i bought from TM, but the colour comes off it (but thankfully wipes clean easily), and now it has a chip in the corner despite me never dropping it. Have emailed the seller to find out if it is even a genuine Rock case?! Needless to say i'm still looking for the "perfect" case for me..

Phone is currently naked, looks and feels so much better, but can't help but be nervous handling it!

i spent some good money on a Otterbox Commuter case.. loving it. Adds a bit of bulk to the phone, but with the added bulk comes a lot of protection. I had the phone in a Cimo case that i got from Amazon, it fell down over the weekend and i thought id rather not taking any more chances and put it in the Otterbox.

The Cimo case

I originally bought the Otterbox cz i will be travelling a lot this year and i thought i dont want any accidents to happen. Kinda worked out well, was in the states for 3 weeks, the phone was well protected.

The Ottebox Commuter

The other case i use and I would highly recommend for fellow One owners is the Poetic Atmosphere case. I absolutely loved that case. It shows off the phones looks while doing a decent job at protecting the phone.

I had the blue version of the Poetic Atmosphere case and it is quite a looker indeed.

I also have one of the Rock cases, did not like that at all since it doesnt offer much protection. only protection against scratches on the back.

I'm not actually too concerned about drop protection as i've never really dropped my phones, just want scratch/superficial protection so it remains in new condition. If i was going for something more substantial, the UAG cases look pretty good IMO. Otterbox etc are too bulky for me.

A lot of people like the poetic atmosphere, although have heard quite a few people have issues with the surround peeling off. It's definitely an option, but i'd prefer a case that is completely colour free, rather than have the coloured border around it. Yes... i am too fussy for my own good.

I'm looking for the nirvana of having a case on my phone, but it looking like it doesn't have one. Considered clear skins, but most seem to peel off after a while

I ordered some Double Dip cases from ebay so I'm hoping they turn out to be fairly decent.

I personally have an otterbox commuter but want the double dip case. Not because the otterbox is bad but because my device over heats with it

Oh... I got mine the other day. If your phone is rooted unroot it. And maybe do a factory reset. I doubt it but you could have a virus
