I removed launcherpro and switcher but still get the problem. I did get a detailed reply from HTC support on doing a hard reset but I will wait until I run out of other options first.

Hmmm... How often do you get this problem?

Might be time to do a hard reset and start from scratch :)

Depends on what I doing, every other day or sometimes a couple of times per day. Yeah I think you are right.

Droid-Den (formerly Nimbu) is shaping up to a pretty sweet site. I might give that AutoKiller app a try.

Haven't ventured into SetCPU territory yet. I'll give that battery re-calibration tip a try first and see if that improves my battery life. If not, then I'll fiddle around with some SetCPU settings :)

I wouldn't recommend AutoKiller or any task-killer type programs. It's pretty sad to see people bring in their Windows mentality into the Android space. Remember how back in the day the Windows world was flooded with "RAM booster" type apps? All those people fighting for more "free" RAM, thinking that pushing stuff into the pagefile actually boosts performance? lol, it's the same all over again, but this time with task-killer apps in Android. :(

You know I did wonder why phones didn't come with an app killer as standard if it was needed.
Or why a lot of apps don't have an "off" or "exit" button

How often do some of you guys update your ROM's?

I've updated mine with a nice clean 2.2 upgrade, but just wondering what is the point of upgrading to something like LeeDroids, since I am assuming you loose your apps once you change your ROM.

I do it every time a new and shiny comes out :) Which at the current rate is something like once a week... ;)

Loosing apps isn't a problem for me since I use Titanium Backup - you can easily backup/restore any app, anytime, anywhere. Anyways, it's not so bad starting over fresh, like once in a couple of months. That way you get rid of unnecessary junk you tend to accumulate over time..

Speaking of backups, anyone recommend a good backup, I will have a look at Titanium for the apps.

Once Rooted hands down the best backup is with clockworkmod recovery and ROM manager in conjunction with Titanium backup. Makes restoring a breeze so you can get a bit more daring with tweaks and hacks!

I have purchased a Desire from Expert Infotech on the Noarth Shore. It appears to be some form of Asian build as it only allows locales for english Vietnam/thailand etc and keeps inserting Chinese ideograms into messages if I hit the wrong key. Also I have tried manual checking of upgrade to 2.2 but it always says no updates available. I note that other Desire owners have received OTA updates so is it my version of Desire that is stopping update or what?

That does not sound good. My one and only experience with that bunch was when I purchased my E71. It turned out to be Portuguese! Sure I could type in English but it kept inserting accented letters and such. I ended up getting a refund - no point persevering. I suggest you do the same.

Android user, software developer, a semi-typical (not a gamer) geek, and a Bernese Mountain Dog nut!
