timmmay: The Galaxy does look pretty nice, at 8mm instead of 13mm, and about 100g less. It's about $250 more, which I don't think to me is good value.

I know the quad core ones are only a few months away, with the better GPU, but the current ones are easy good enough for what I want.

Can anyone recommend a case for the transformer? One that lets me toss it in my backpack without worrying about it getting scratched, then lets me open it up easily enough when I want it. If it's easy to get in and out of the case that's a bonus.

Even using Dolphin HD there's a bit of lag, not significant, but the comparison between my phone and tablet is noticeable.

I have the keyboard/dock and tablet and use the STM (xs) sleeve. Does the job for me.

I bought a CaseBrown Bold Standby case from Amazon. I haven't even opened the courier pack yet because now I have the keyboard I'm not in need of it.

I don't know what an HD Dolphin is... i'm going to have to find an absolute beginners guide to Android somewhere.

I might buy that case off you if it's for sale... if I get the EEE thingy. I'll go see if they have the EEE in JB tomorrow.

Dolphin HD is an alternative browser, like Chrome or Firefox for the PC.

Yeah I probably shouldn't pull finger and do something about selling the case/stand thingee.

Let's see if you decide on the EEE :)

I got one :-) I got a zipped neoprene case with it, I like the idea of having something to protect it during transport, but that I can take off when i'm using it.

I assume it's at Android 3.0, how do I upgrade it to 3.2? Any other tips for a first time Android user that'll help me get stared quickly? Settings, apps, etc?

Did you just get the tablet or the keyboard dock too??

First thing you should do (besides charge it) is upgrade. You'll need to connect to WiFi but hopefully thats pretty easy to work out. Once connected it should auto-detect the update, if not go into settings -> about tablet -> system firmware update -> check update

That should bring you up to 3.2.

The rest is really up to you. I'd google "best honeycomb apps" to get some impressions of what people like. Here is my current list of daily used apps which I installed from the market:

1. Plume (twitter client)
2. Amazon Kindle (ebook reader & store)
3. QuickPic (gallery application with a few extra features over the stock gallery)
4. Dual Battery Widget (really useful if you have the dock)
5. SugarSync (Sync files between my desktop and tablet - some people prefer dropbox)
6. Dolphin Browser (my preferred web browser, although Opera Mobile is tempting me)
7. File Manager HD (cool file manager with bookmarks (also use ES File Explorer which is a bit less polished but with better features)
8. Thinking Space (mindmapping application)
9. ezPDF Reader (best PDF app on the market, worth the investment IMO)
10. MoboPlayer (movie player, good with divx movies)
11. Newsr (goolge reader client)

I am also trying to decide on a note taking app. Currently trialling TabNotes, FreeNote and Genial Writing. Havent settled on one yet although if TabNotes let me save a JPG locally of my notes I'd go with that.

I also have PrinterShare installed which lets me use Google CloudPrint to print out documents from my TF.

Most of those are free and can be found in the market.

Thanks Jay! :-) I got the 16GB tablet, no keyboard. I don't need the keyboard, and I figured I can buy it later anyway. It's cheaper to buy separately too.

Thanks for the app list :) Does that rss reader do white text on black background? I'd really like that feature for reading rss feeds at night.

Here's a couple of questions, some of them stupid, hopefully most not so much:
- How do I get music and movies onto it?

- How do I back it up to my PC? Settings, apps, etc.

No worries :)

I just had a look and it doesnt do "night reading" just plain old black text on white background. Might pay to have a search to see if someones come up with what you're looking for on that one.

Moving movies/music is pretty much as simple as plugging the USB cable in and transferring the files. I cant recall if I had to install anything from ASUS to get it to work but dont think so.

Actually, having said that, my home PC has crappy USB ports so I cant connect anything other than some thumb drives to them or they cut out (cant handle the current it seems). So for that PC I actually run a FTP server on the tablet (FTP Server) and then connect to it directly via WiFi using Filezilla to transfer files. A bit of an arse of a solution but it works fine.

Class 10 would be better but I've run movies off my class 4 32GB card no problems.

There is a feature to backup to google servers, check under Privacy in Settings and see if this is what you want. If not there may be some apps in the market.

Good question on the recovery, thats on my todo list as well :)

Stock mail client is OK. I tried a few market apps and Moxier mail was better but they wanted about $30 for it, not worth it IMO. The stock GMAIL app is better again, I like it.

Yes to CloudPrint. Only trick is you need to have Google Chrome running on your home PC. Security is handled through your google (gmail) account.

Depends what you mean by "ad blocking". Probably not is the answer, although it does a good job of pop-up blocking.

By ad blocking I just mean blocking all those flashing, spinning, annoying ads in a web browser. Like the Adblock extension for firefox.

Have a look on the Market for AdFree. I use it on my phone, come to think of it, you might need to be rooted. Yep, you need to be rooted.

I like the stock email app. I use Gmail on my phone but actually enjoy the stock email app for the tablet.

For phone protection I use Lookout, sadly they don't do a tablet version - becuase they rely on you having a SIM card. But when I had a look there were a few others out there, but I've not gotten around to looking at them.

The XDA threads might be a good place to check out for apps. Here's the link.

I've got the 32GB model with a 32GB card in it. BUT I am using bugger all at the moment.
All my apps and stuff add up to about 1.5GB of storage. I have about 4GB worth of music and currently about 2GB worth of movies and 500 MB worth of photos.

So... thats only about 8GB out of my 64GB worth of storage.

To be honest I wouldnt buy an SD card for much more than transferring files at the moment if you dont need the storage. The price is only going to drop from here.

When I try to download the facebook for android app I get the following message

Purchase cancelled - Facebook for Android
The item you were attempting to purchase could not be... (I can't read the rest)

Other apps download fine.... what's going on? How come I can't even see the error message?! Any ideas?

I don't have Facebook on my tablet so thought I'd try to see if I could replicate your problem. I can't find an app called "Facebook for Android". There is a "FriendCaster Tab for Facebook" But it's free.

What Market are you using to search for the app?
