Lambchop: battery life is much better than my S2 used to be btw. my mate here on his S3 is getting almost 2 days of use apparently

Thats quite good battery life. I am only getting just one day battery life on normal usage (wifi and limited 3G data).

Ok, I'm a complete Samsung noob and scratching my head trying to transfer files between my Mac and the S3. It's not appearing as an external storage like any other Android phones I've had or used. Is Kies the only way to access my phone? Can I not see the internal storage or the SD card at all?

On the mac you must download AndroidTransfer app and also switch your download mode to MTP when plugged into the USB.

Windows will work with Camera PTP. Mac will work with MTP. You might need to install Kies. The reason is this device supporting exFAT and ext4 not the good old FAT32

Any recommendations on reasonable set of headphones (up to $100)?

[EDIT: Would prefer earbuds for compactness, but external cans considered too!]

My mini review of SGS3:

I am loving this phone. Great screen (and not too large). Great battery (88% after a day of my normal use - which admittedly power hungry - a bit of FM radio, a few phone calls, some texts and emails). It's obviously light and thin - styling is fine and the build quality also seems robust. Headphones are a bit pokey - hence my quetion above.

I've rooted mine and flashed it with CW recovery and Omega 4.2 (mainly to get rid of the Telecom logo). Omega is pretty much close to the stock ROM, with bloatware and adware removed.

A great upgrade from the Huawei u8150 and its 2.8" screen and 516Mhz single core!

What type?  In-ear buds, circum-aural, supra-aural?

Sad news, same issue with the new phone. I am wondering if it could be "how I am holding it"!

Basically I don't seem to have the issue if I use a bluetooth headset, but if I hold the phone the other end can't hear me (like I went on mute). It can happen any time during a call or multiple times. Doesn't seem to happen on speakerphone I have determined either.

Apologies if this has been asked (and you've answered) before, but are you using a case?

I've actually found these to be quite good if you want the in ear type despite the cheap price (they were $50 when they first came out). The sound quality is excellent (even comparing to my $400 headphones) and they are the only in ear type that will stay in my ears. I'm pretty hard on headphones that I use when I'm out and about, always seem to get them caught on things so for that price I have a spare set
Lots of different colours too.

Hmmm. . . . I wonder if it's the modem not loving your network/location.  Why don't you try the newer modem via Odin, and revert back if it's no better (you can extract the modem.bin from a stock ROM).

That wouldnt account for the BT or speakerphone working though? Unless he is using this to hold the phone maybe?

nofam: well I've been in this office 2+ years with an S2 and it's been ok, plus it happens pretty much everywhere so I am thinking it shouldn't be a reception issue, could be a modem issue I guess. Is there a different one from what came with the phone available?
