OK Ladies, I think we have reached a mutual understanding here: when it comes to custom ROMs (based on stock or otherwise) some do and some don't. Choice.

Lambchop: i think CM9 is fine in say situations where stock firmware is either not up to speed ... or lagging behind in updates.

thats not the case with either the S2 or S3 ... samsung where leaking stock roms to the xda forums regurally for the S2 ..and the S3 is launching on the latest version of ICS you can find, hell it's got it before some GN's out there.

and even when thats not the case ... custom isn't all it's cracked up to be in many cases.

galaxy tab 10.1 for eg ...still no sign of ICS .... i've run CM9 on that thing for a while .. and sure having chrome is nice.  but there's so many problems and quirks still ..not to even mention you loose camera function completely ...have to rely on a 3rd party app to replace the broken vpn functionality .. etc etc..

i guess i'me making a point of difference between roms based on stock .. and things like CM9 ..

You might not know this but most custom ROMs for Samsung devices are not like CM9 and in fact are based on stock Samsung ROMs with certain parts modified. This means; for example you can still use all of the Samsung applications like Allshare and S-Voice but get enhanced functionality like a camera that records with a much higher bitrate, or modified the automatic brightness settings. Even simple things like having different battery icons with % showing inside the icon are reasons why people might go for a custom ROM.

What this also means is that these custom roms are usually very stable.

Anyway, each to his own. I haven't flashed a custom ROM yet but I am pondering whether there are enough new features and customisations to justify it. I have rooted and frozen a lot of bloatware using Titanium Backup, and I use Apex Launcher too.

Hi guys,

My new S3 has an intermittent issue.

Sometimes when I make or receive a call, the other person can't hear me. I can hear them fine and signal strength is excellent.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas what to do?

I have never had this happen to me, but it could be related to the way you hold the phone. Apparently the antenna is at the bottom and holding it there can obstruct the signal.

I only get that when I take a call whilst connected to my car stereo (annoying enough even in that scenario). Try turning off noise cancellation, that has fixed this bug in previous Samsung handsets.

Got a quick link to where that is located? (I don't have my S3 yet)

That reminds me - I bought a SIM cutter, so anyone wanting to borrow it is very welcome - I've added it to my sig.

Perhaps you could add your area to your sig so people will know if you're in the same town as them?

Go to your Google Playstore page on PC.
You can transfer all the apps you want from there.

http://www.thechinacellphone.com/micro_sim_template.pdf

Saved me $5 on a simcutter. No problems with fit or finish - works perfectly.

Although before I found the template, I already wasted $5 on a blank 2 degrees microsim card in anticipation :)
