Flashing the top firmware requires root and root voids warranty correct (technically if you get caught).

Indeed. . . . .It would be accurate to state she's none-too-pleased about history repeating itself, and has made her feelings known about this.

I foolishly thought she might have 'overlooked' the fact it was her turn for a new phone. . . .Embarassed

I'm just lucky that my birthday serendipitously coincides with Samsung's launch schedule.

Actually I am pretty sure your mum and dad timed it that way intentionally :)

Anyone up for free sim cutting? Let me know :)

simon14: Hi guys,

My new S3 has an intermittent issue.

Sometimes when I make or receive a call, the other person can't hear me. I can hear them fine and signal strength is excellent.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas what to do?

Oh dear, yes this issue has already been raised further back in this thread.
Hopefully doesn't become an problem with all S3s

Hate to sound alarmist, but I had this happen to me once (over 30? calls) last week for no apparent reason.

BTW loving my blue :)

And I can confirm my Jig works on the SIII.

Looks like I might be returning mine. The screen smear was very clear this morning while reading in bed with all lights off - a typical scenario for me.

Do you have "bluey" in your possession already?  A good weekend ahead acquainting yourself with it.

Any guestimates on when LF2 software will hit our shores officially? Mainly interested in it because of the cell standby. Not that I'm unhappy about my battery life (in fact I'm pretty stocked over S1), but if it could be extended further I won't object.

No - alas, it's coming from Tauranga I believe.  Hopefully it will be in my sweaty little mitts on Tuesday!

sultanoswing: Any recommendations on a good set of headphones (up to $100) ?

What type?  In-ear buds, circum-aural, supra-aural?

http://www.jbhifi.co.nz/portable/mp3-players/head-phones/panasonic/in-ear-headphones-sku-16197/

I've actually found these to be quite good if you want the in ear type despite the cheap price (they were $50 when they first came out). The sound quality is excellent (even comparing to my $400 headphones) and they are the only in ear type that will stay in my ears. I'm pretty hard on headphones that I use when I'm out and about, always seem to get them caught on things so for that price I have a spare set
Lots of different colours too.

Yep - good recommendation! Cheap as chips ($15), but the sound is OK - as good as the stock Samsung ones. Two advantages over stock:

1) They're black, not white (which matches better with a pebble blue phone)
2) They actually stay in my ears!

I would love to trial a more expensive set (Klipsch Image S4's seem to get good recommendations for fit and sound), but with ear canal devices, thanks to infection/ear wax transmission, you can't really audition them anywhere except if a mate's got them. The rest is trusting to reviews.

With the prices of some of these devices (upwards of $200 and more), it's a big stretch to buy something un-auditioned (and somewhat unique in the hi-fi sense, where auditioning is de rigeur).

I have both the S4's and the HiFiMan REO's and I think they are both good, but I slightly prefer the RE0's due to fit and a sound that I prefer.
