AndrewTD: I got an OTA firmware upgrade for my Note yesterday - was all excited I was going to get ICS goodness. But after the upgrade it didn't appear to have changed anything :(

I got my phone from ExpertInfortech, so it ended up being a Polish one! That may affect what upgrades I receive and when.

What does your ph info screen look like now Andrew?

I wonder what your update was then. Tried to check for updates again? Maybe it failed.

It may be what they've done previously on other devices, a minor update to prepare the phone for downloading the major update.

I have same update of 38M I think it was, while it seems nothing obvious I had a problem where the phone would not call out, the calls were instantly disconnected.  Same thing had happened on a SII (pre ICS).  Vodafone said no problem and even changed the SIM.  Eventually did a factory reset on the SII which fixed it but caused all sorts of backup recall / restart problems which put me right off factory resetting.  I've not had the time to find out how to debug the fault, however this update seems to have fixed the calling out issue on a Polish SG Note.  Samsung may have been aware of the problem.

Flashed mine from Chinese ICS leak repack to this tonight, bit involved since the bootloaders on the leaked firmware are a bit unpredictable (nothing like the risk of hard brick even when doing everything right to spice up your life!). Had the joy of bootloops after downgrading to stable stock Gingerbread ROM, but soon recovered with a wipe in recovery and all good now. Time to play some.

Few things:

First thing: DO NOT FLASH TO THIS ROM USING ODIN OR MOBILE ODIN! In fact, there is even some doubt that upgrading via official channels is safe. Seriously, there is an unpredictable risk of had brick and even after successfully flashing the ROM file manipulation and CWM activities can hard brick your phone. If you MUST have it early I think flashing to a German GB ROM and then checking for the official upgrade would be the safest route, but proceed a your own risk.

That said I flashed last night before the warning (and from an ICS leaked repack, the most risky scenario) and appear to have gotten away with it.

Can report some things:

WiiMotes working with stock ICS ROM, PS3 controllers via USB OTG also working!

I see USB Midi devices work as well, which is awesome (not personally confirmed this myself).

The thing I wanted most of all - USB audio - sadly does not work (just tried my E17).

Another mild annoyance in the USB OTG/host functionality - the right mouse button on BT mice is no longer mapped to back, it's simply another select key, as is the scroll wheel button (which was formerly the menu button). Very annoying mapping and present on every ICS device I try it on (Transformer Prime, Note, Archos G9 Turbo, One X).

What are your thoughts on criskelo's "very stable" LPY rom that was uploaded today? Still not worth the risk?
