I was looking at buying an S7 on the Stuff Shop and I see I get a choice of which carrier's version I want. Does it matter which one I chose? What's the difference between each carriers version?

I got my from Samsung's experience store directly and I was able to choose between Spark, Vodafone and 2D. Apparently, only the 2D doesn't come with any bloatware - not even their 2D app. I can confirm this is the case.

Is the phone locked to 2D?

Nope. It's basically a vanilla S7 Edge :)

So, these have been out for a while and I am guessing a lot of people on this thread now have their new toy. What is the verdict?!

I have an HTC One (M7) and it is getting a long in the tooth so it is time for an upgrade.

Do I *need* an S7? Does it *have* to be the Edge?

Interested to know what people think now they have been using theirs for a few weeks.

I went from an M7 -> M8 -> Note 4 -> S7 (not edge).

I still like Sense personally, but have easily come to grips with TW.

The S7 is a great phone, and to be honest, actually feels like it's finally ticking all the boxes rather than throwing up a bunch of compromises.

As for standard vs edge, that really depends on what you want. I've always wanted the top of the line, but finally convinced myself I didn't need it with this latest model. I like that the S7 is that little bit smaller and easier to handle (particularly after moving from the Note 4), an is easier to protect with a case

Although it has a smaller battery then the edge, I no longer have to worry about what I do with the phone in the evening - it easily makes a full day on one charge. I've now taken to leaving it unplugged for nearly 24hours, and plugging it in for a "fast charge" in the morning before work. And where my Note 4 would be dead by then, the S7 still has 20-30% left.

Sure the edge has slightly better aesthetics, they weren't worth $200 to me.

Either way, I don't think you'd regret it

Anyone know where I can get a S7 edge outright (outside of the Stuff store)? Had 'ordered' one at Harvey Norman, but when told to pick up I am now told I have to get it on contract.

If you are in Auckland you can grab them outright from the Samsung kiosks in Albany and Sylvia Park malls.

Thanks @LazyDr - sounds like it could be worth a shot then. I think I tend to agree with you re. the S7 v Edge and payig $200 for the fancy screen...but it just looks so niiiiiice...!

Very happy with my S7. I'm in the minority, but prefer the standard S7 design over the edge.

Still not a fan of touchwiz, but am running Google now launcher to minimise impact.

Battery is ok - not as good as my Xperia Z2. Fast charge is great. I use a wireless pad to charge at work in the morning, and top up on fast charge if I remember at night (don't believe in leaving on charge over night as kills battery life over time).

Bluetooth and NFC seem more reliable than my Z2.

And the silver colour is outstanding.

Actually, one gripe I have is extremely laggy scrolling in Chrome, esp. with larger pages - any one else finding this?

Agreed, and I do still wonder sometimes if I should've splashed out for the edge, but it's honestly not because I feel like I'm missing out in any way, it's only for the show off factor.. always feels nice to have someone comment on how great your phone is ;) Experienced that with the M7 and Note 4 (when they were new), nothing so far with the S7. Partly because all phones look nicer in general these days, and partly because it's hidden in a case I suspect. I'm sure the edge would still get appreciative comments, it remains unique design wise for now

I went from S6 edge to just S7 because I found the edge useless.

Another odd thing happened with my SGS7 today.

My camera started but shutter would not work I launched camera from lock screen as I have it set as one of my quick launch apps. i closed and reopened and the shutter worked?? so have set volume button as shutter as well.

hoping this is a one off.

Pete

My camera failed again today. Googling, I see a lot of other people have the same problem. There are various suggestions to fix it:

1. Just restart

Or....

2. Go to Applications and force stop / clear data / cache then restart the phone. (This actually worked briefly, but then the camera failed again 5 minutes later and in any case "Mode" was inaccesible).

Or....

3. Clear all cache globally by power off then reboot into recovery mode (Pressing Power / Home / Vol Up simultaneously to turn on the phone). This didn't work for me.

In the end...I did another factory reset. That fixed it, but I was careful to a frsh set up and did not allow Google or Samsung to restore any previous apps or settings.

It's 21 days since the last factory reset for the same reason. That seems to always fix the camera. So it can't be a hardware problem. The fact the "Mode" feature goes away - even if you can get the camera to work briefly - hints at the nature of the problem.

The ONLY change I made in Mode was to add the "Dual Camera" feature to the Samsung Camera. I think this is what fried the camera in March, as well, as I had just added that feature a day or so before the camera failed in exactly the same way.

Hopefully the camera won't fail again if I just avoid installing any additional functions to the Samsung Camera.

I also note that I can no longer see the Google Camera app in the Play Store on my S7. It's invisible.

Same....plus the Edge phone got much hotter than the regular S6.

Note: The SGS7 has NO overheating problems with the Gear VR. A big improvement on the S6 in this regard.

Well just took delivery of my shiny new S7 (silver non-edge). It is a beautiful looking device. What cases are people rolling with? Any recommendations? I know there was a discussion on the previous page which I have gone through and had a look at, but wondered if anyone else had any suggestions?

I am after something slim and discrete, that will protect from scratches and scuffs when I put it down on the table etc but doesn't need to protect it from being run over by a tank or anything like that!
