Well just took delivery of my shiny new S7 (silver non-edge). It is a beautiful looking device. What cases are people rolling with? Any recommendations? I know there was a discussion on the previous page which I have gone through and had a look at, but wondered if anyone else had any suggestions?

I am after something slim and discrete, that will protect from scratches and scuffs when I put it down on the table etc but doesn't need to protect it from being run over by a tank or anything like that!

I went with this case mate from JB HiFi - around $40. It was the slimmest I could find and it shows off the silver back. At first I thought it still a little too bulky, but I have quickly adjusted. Dropped my phone for the first time earlier today, so glad I had it

Anyone know where I can get a S7 edge outright (outside of the Stuff store)? Had 'ordered' one at Harvey Norman, but when told to pick up I am now told I have to get it on contract.

If you are in Auckland you can grab them outright from the Samsung kiosks in Albany and Sylvia Park malls.

Does anyone know if you can get the S7 edge without contract from somewhere in Christchurch?

I am using Spigen Slim Cut Case and it is black on a black s7 edge. Looks great and very slim and protective too.

More on cameras.

After doing my cache wiping and factory resetting stuff yesterday in a bid to get the SGS7 camera to work again (It did), I found later that I could no longer see the Google Camera in the Play Store from my phone....or my desktop PC.

Hmm.

I googled it and it looks like many people have been having trouble seeing the Google Camera since early March. But with a direct link (a user posted one in the Google product forum for the camera) and a desktop / laptop PC you can find it and then push the install to the phone.

I mention this because if your camera fails on your SGS7 forcing you to factory reset and you then want to re-install the Google Camera (for taking good, hi-res 360x360 photospheres) then you may have to dig around to find it if you haven't backed up the apk.

Actually just been shopping at PB Tech Manukau today. Nice discounts on the S7 cases! May have bought a couple of Spigen variants for my Edge.

I've got the exact same black on black combo, actually really like it despite initially buying the case to tide me over while waiting for my UAG case to arrive. UAG remains unused for now

I just bought my shiny new S7 today (Gold, non-edge).  Our local Vodafone store were happy to sell it to me unlocked and without a plan which was a pleasant surprise.  I fully expected them to refuse, forcing me to take my business elsewhere.

Their staff were very helpful and had all models and colours of the S7 in stock with a great range of cases.  I chose one from 'Incipio' which is made from soft black rubber and fits very snugly with replica buttons that push on the real ones beneath.  The top edge of the case protrudes slightly above the screen so it is protected from scuffing if placed face down (something I try to avoid, but it's good to have added protection, just in case).

I also plan to buy a wallet (probably this one from Amazon) to further protect my phone when it's in my pocket.  My last two Lumias have survived pretty much unscathed inside a similar wallet and it gives me the ability to have notes/coins, driver's licence, credit cards and a place to file receipts along with my phone when inside its case.

I'm stoked that my Nokia Lumia wireless charger works perfectly to charge the S7, with or without the case fitted.  Great to see that Samsung provide a red LED to indicate at a glance that the phone is charging.  All things considered, I'm very happy with my purchase.  Now to figure out how to copy my contacts etc across from the Lumia because Windows Phones are not supported by the Samsung data transfer app (no surprises there!).

Import your contacts into your Google account on a Windows computer? Shouldn't be a biggie, if I'm thinking straight!

Thanks for the tip Stu; I'll give that a try.

P.S.  Contacts was the easy bit once I'd exported them from Windows Mobile 10 onto my uSD card and transferred that into the S7.

Transferring about 5500 SMS messages took a bit more work but it would have been extremely difficult without VMG Converter. For US$2 it's an absolute bargain and does what it says on the tin.

If anyone is interested, I've followed the instructions for merging an external SDcard into internal storage (an Android 6 feature Samsung turned off by default) on the SGS7.

My phone now has (nominal) 256GB of storage - which is about 200-210GB-ish actual.

It seems to symlink a single directory across both volumes.
