DarkVader: Market started up once i left the office firewall and google talk was accessed loading my google account details thru 3g from vodafone on the trip home. Now can dl apps from Market even at work. Swype working well using 1.6 version.
Having difficulty getting HTC sense.com to activate phone finder, it says I need to activate it on phone but I have but no change, all the other setting on sense.com seem ok.
Any others had this problem.

i had that problem when i first started using HTC Sense (nothing synced) but i left it for a couple days then when i checked back, it was working fine and has worked since. i have no idea why it started like that.

Overall I like my Desire HD. A pity the volume is so soft it is hard to hear. Was thinking of ditching it and getting Samsung Galaxy S. Reading heaps of reviews of both think I will stay with Desire HD. Even on raining day I cant see the screen outside but the reviews say HD has better screen but Galaxy is less reflective. Have ordered anti-reflective screen protector to see if that helps.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

anyone else finding the lock button a little too recessed to prod unless you use a nail? Other than that I bloody absolutely lurve this phone!

I found it a little hard also, but I've got the otterbox commuter on my phone now which fixes that and the sound buttons. Protected my phone from a drop from chest height into pavement with no damage to the phone or the case also.

i have been wanting a good case for my dhd. checked out that otterbox and i might grab one as well.

DarkVader: i do admit that it's a bit recessed than normal but i can still use just my finger and not my nail when attempting to push it.

Hi, i bought my HD from Auckland. When I set it up the english choice was different middle east countries only. With the Locations, I want to update maps but New Zealand is not offered, it only gives me 4 middle east countries as an option. How do I change region on this phone for New Zealand

Well I took the plunge and got a DHD. Originally was tossing up between it and a Samsung galaxy tab, but decided to wait for the next generation of tablets. So far so good.
I needn't have worried about transferring my contacts because that was taken care of during the setup of the DHD using bluetooth. I had to register with htcsense on my pc, it just didn't want to do it on the phone.
I've only had it 3 days but comparing it to my old Hero (2.1) it does all the things better that you would expect from a bigger faster phone. However a couple of things surprised me, both to do with signal strength. I consistently get better signal strength indications in same locations (4 bars instead of 2). As for the gps, using the app "gps test" the DHD picks up, locks and starts navigating much faster than the Hero and seems to hold a SNR several units higher per satellite.
The phone fits quite comfortably in my jeans pocket. The jury is still out on battery life as I don't believe I have run it in yet. I intend to get a portable backup battery (plugs into micro USB port).
Writing this on my DHD using my newly arrived Swype keyboard.

Oh and a couple of other things because the mobile gz site won't let me edit.
Hopefully the signal strength isn't due to htc using the same formula Apple did for the iPhone ;).
I set my phone to NZ by using morelocale2 (free from android market).

How long did it take to write all that using Swype? lol

Probably about twice as long as a computer keyboard but certainly quicker than the phone keyboard. This paragraph took about 2 minutes including corrections.

I was finally able to give my DHD a really good workout. I've just got back from a couple of weeks in France, where my phone had to do everything (no, couldn't teach it to make coffee). Before I went I was worried about battery life and debated getting a second battery. I was using Orange Fr prepay with unlimited data, so used maps and navigation extensively. My battery lasted all day and the phone was fully-functional with just charging each night.

That said, I was careful about battery use. I kept data always on, but only turned GPS on each time I checked navigation. Since I didn't have time to read email or tweets when I was out and about all day, I kept account synching off until I needed it. The only synching I let run continuously was the weather (I had to know if I was really cold or just imagining it ;))

In sub-zero temperatures I noticed the battery ran down faster so didn't use my phone so much then. That showed me something about the DHD I'd never considered - the case gets too damned cold to hold when its freezing & you are outside. One day, when it was -10C with wind chill, holding the phone was really painful. It still performed ok but the battery really didn't like being that cold. I was carrying it in a bag, not in a pocket, which would have made a difference.

One thing annoys me - not sure if I should blame the DHD though as its really an Android problem - authentication isn't saved & carried over when you change SIM cards. I was already aware of this so had a copy of my 28 character Google password with me, but it was a serious PITA on this trip as I changed SIM's three times. While losing logins & authentication when a SIM card changes may make the phone more secure there should be an option for people to save this data temporarily to SD card for temporary SIM changes.

I was in love with the DHD before I headed overseas. I am even more in love with it now.

How did you find the navigation? I'm still trying to decide weather google or locations is better. Google seems to get better routes (locations gave me a really, really stupid route in one case). However, the locations has better voice quality, and gives lane guidance. I don't actually have my licence yet so once I've finally got that will try both more. Of course there is a ton of other navigation applications on market also.

I had loads of problems with Locations and gave up on it on the first day. It kept losing my location even with GPS on, threw up errors for the maps, then got itself hung up and I had to reinstall maps. Google did everything I needed however I haven't tested it with driving. While I was in France I walked & used the metro (used an app for metro maps too).
