Rooted, Unlocked Boot Loader, S-On & tried various Lollipop Roms including GPE & they all display the same mic problem.

My brother gave me his M7 after OTA update soft bricked the phone(he was on stock). My only recovery option at the time was a custom rom. Now no one can hear me when I answer or make a call, I have to use the speaker phone(which is crystal clear). It's like the mic is Muted/turned off during calls. Both mics work fine, I've tested using Voice recording software, so there is nothing physically wrong with either mic. I have google extensively & there doesn't seem to be any real option except a replacement phone. Best guesses so far is interference with "Noice Cancelling Software" interference & mainly for USA carriers. Any kiwis had a similar problem or with a possible solution?.

I'm going to try a Kitkat rom tomorrow & i also found a Aussie stock rom the works with NZ carriers which I'll also try.

This problem happened about 3 updates ago... It was a bit of a global fiasco. HTC issued a temporary solution and it was fixed shortly after...

Sorry I can't help further except that if you Google deep enough - maybe even search back through this thread... You'll find the workaround. It was late last year if it helps.

I'll look back on this thread 10 months and see, thanks.

So damn frustrating, especially since the underlying cause isn't cleary identified and there are various possible solutions which haven't worked. Swapping kernels and roms with the latest htc m7 updates included make no difference.

Installed stock, relocked bootloader & OTA update...no luck, still only speaker phone calls.

Time for a new phone.

How old is it? The One M7 has a two year warranty...

Outside the 2 year warranty, early 2013. I was almost tempted to take it into N.L & see, but thought stuff it I'll just unlock, load a custom rom instead.

I'll prob just switch to the "Vodafone Smart Ultra".

It is probably the Stagefright fix that was also delivered to the HTC M8.

HTC is so much better than other Android manufacturers when it comes to updates on older handsets. Shame they aren't recognised for this.

This is so true. You have to wonder how much that hurts sales of their new models. I didn't upgrade from M7 to M8 as it didn't seem enough of a difference, and now we've bought a new house, SWMBO - AKA the Minister of Finance - has put the clamp on any spending that isn't directly for said new house, so I'll be on the M7 until Christmas 2016, unless I can "win" something! But the M7 keeps getting all the new stuff anyway so I haven't felt like I'm missing out much.

Despite the camera on my M7 having degraded quite badly over time (the common issue of pink colours in low light and very grainy), I still feel kind of loyal to them for some reason, and would like to consider another HTC for my next phone. The commitments to updates mentioned above certainly counts for some of that loyalty.

The A9 sounds like it will be a real beast in terms of processing power: http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/09/09/htc-one-a9-with-mt6797-deca-core-chip-hits-geekbench-beats-exynos-7420/. So that's promising.

I think I heard somewhere that HTC were promising a revolutionary camera for it too, and I really really hope that it's true. I applaud them for taking a chance on ultrapixels for creating better images, when it could easily cost them sales due to mega-pixel madness when comparing specs. Obviously it never really played out, and they recognised this when making later models. I respect them for trying anyway. However this time around I really want a great camera experience. The Z5 camera seems great and really tempting for example.

I'm also hoping for for an option near a 4.7inch size. I've haven't managed get get on-board with the idea of a larger phone. I like the one-handed use and discrete stowage. I'd use my surface (SP3) for watching movies or whatever if I wanted a larger screen experience on the go. Having said that, I thought 4.7 was huge when I got it, and it's fine now, so maybe I'd still bite the bullet and try a larger phone. I can only imagine that at this time HTC will be financially forced to put all it's eggs in one basket and just release 1 size of flagship.

Anyway, not long to find out now :)

Anyone else stayed in with HTC for the long haul? Or have other brands and features tempted you away?

My only Android devices have been HTC. Before that I used Windows Phone and Windows Mobile - all the way back to 2003 (and a good number of Windows Mobile devices were actually manufactured by HTC as OEM).

M7 until a upgrade-worthy device comes along. Brand loyalty isn't for me though... If Samsung or Apple make a phone that ticks all the boxes I'll be getting theirs.

I used to be about the camera... But there aren't many phone cameras that can't be bent to your will wiith a little work these days... My M7 has converted me to a battery obsessive. My next phone will have good or replaceable battery.

Hero, Desire, DesireHD, OneX, OneM7,........S6. Probably should have gone M9 but just too many uncertainties. Also DesireX, Sensation and OneM8 for family. So fairly well invested in HTC over the years.
If the next HTC flagship is a leap like the M7 was then my wife will probably inherit the S6, but it will need a good camera and decent battery life to be a contender. Because of the drop in the dollar, next year's flagships will probably be $1200-1500 so that much harder to justify a change.
My M7 still sees service as a backup phone on a different network.
