What we need now is a Quickflix Android app so that these can be used on Quickflix rather than the restricted list of hardware they currently support..

A Quickflix Android App may be more probably. If you believe in fairies then clap your hands....

There seems to be an infestation of Dual-core 1.5GHz+ Android 4.0 HDMI/USB 'sticks' at a reasonable price point.

One has to assume that the GPU will only be a single core processor and thus relies on the CPU for most GUI processing.

However, below is what one really wants in the way of hardware.

Quad-core 1.4GHz CPU

Just an update, I notice many of these devices don't support Bluetooth.

So if Bluetooth is a consideration, you may need to check further.

well they have one in Australia. I can only imagine it is a matter of time before one comes here (maybe the ozzie one will work over too, I don't know)

geek4me: I've just ordered an MK802 Android mini PC which looks like this of Ebay (scroll down to see more pictures). At about $63NZ it seems like a good deal. Will let you know how well it works next week when it arrives. Has anyone else ordered one of these?

The stick arrived and so far my experience has not been good.

1) The memory displays as 504MB instead of 1 GB.
2) The device gives read and write errors.

It can't read .apk files downloaded from the Play Store. Installation fails with Error "Package file is invalid" or "Package file was not signed correctly".

The seller has asked me to download a patch from a Chinese web site which brings up the Security Warning:

"The file you are downloading has been reported to be unsafe. The download website contains links to viruses or other software that can harm your computer or reveal your personal information. For your safety, we recommend that you cancel this file download."

Looks like I'll have to send it back.

I think you wanna go with the uhost stick, i think they are supposed to be the best currently for video playback + accessories/remotes/etc.

If I was shopping for one of these devices (and I don't envy those trying to decide which to buy) I'd look at the MK808.

With a Rockchip RK3066 1.3GHz Cortex A9 Dual Core + Mali400 GPU Quad Core (if you can believe that) it sounds like quite a beast in a small package.

I see some of these devices are re-badges under different names. :-)

I definitely wouldn't be buying a single core processor to save a couple of dollars these days.

As you say - 'if you can believe that'... Unfortunately it seems quite often the units supplied dont quite match up to the adverts claims. That spec would be quite a little beastie. I imagine that they would get pretty hot though...
