Has anyone had decent experience with battery life on HTC - on the One X or One X+ or even the One S?

What do you consider decent?

My One X would get 2 days between charges on Telecom XT. I get about the same from the Nexus 4. I guess it all depends on what you use it for. I'm not into gaming, so probably helps.

Camera on One X is fantastic, my favourite android device with a camera so far.

I am using Nexus 4 currently and while stock jellybean is brilliant.. I quite liked HTC Sense on the One X.

In my book just barely decent is at least 4 hours screen-on time, including some intensive activity like gaming/GPS/high profile video etc, with at least 14 additional hours of screen-off idling time with push services running. My One X never really got that close to that, although I'm sure on custom ROMs and with later firmwares it improved.

The One X camera was decent, not as good as its Samsung or Apple contemporaries, but quite decent in it's own right. HTCs main problem is they still haven't mastered reducing noise, their camera shots are so noisy compared to others in equivalent conditions and it just destroys detail reproduction.

My one x major let down is the battery.
Previously my desire I could leave 3g and wireless on all the time. If I want to still have a phone after work I need to switch them off and only use net at break times. Pretty crap tbh
To use the one x as a smart phone it needs top up charges

My experience also, and sadly the same here with the Butterfly (worse in fact).

ouch..thats a pain...i was expecting good things from the butterfly....

what is your usage like? how much screen on time do you get?

On Friday I had 12 hours off charge, and had only reached a little over 2 hours screen-on time when the battery hit 15% remaining. In identical use my Note 2 would have had about 70% remaining, and my S3 somewhere in the vicinity of 50%. Difficult to recommend to power-users unless they are prepared/able to remain tethered to power sources a fair proportion of the time.

oh...thats not really a good sign for the HTC then.. I am sure it must be an amazing phone. But without good battery, whats the point of having all those features at your disposal.

since you have used all 3, which one would you recommend to someone who wants a decent phone for calling, txting (the basics), but also a bit of media consumption (the odd movie/tv show), a good camera, the odd web browsing.

They're all fairly similar in terms of their capabilities there, although the Samsung's cameras are better than the HTCs (while their imaging advantage is distinct, its not a night and day difference however). If you can handle the size I'd recommend the Note 2, otherwise I'd probably still take the S3 over the Butterfly (you'll get hours more screen-on time and it still has a number of capabilities missing from the HTC, for example wider USB OTG support). At this point I think it's worth while to wait, all the manufacturers are bringing 1080p screens this year, and some of the already announced devices have considerably larger battery capacities (LGs one, forget the name, is 3000mA for example).

Perhaps HTC should sack the member of the design team responsible for battery life. A look through HTC forums show battery life as a prime gripe. While I recognise there are cost and size compromises in any design process, maybe it is time for power users to be given the option of paying more and getting more battery capacity (from the OEM not aftermarket third parties). I am sorry to see that the Butterfly suffers from a paucity of power and reduces my expectation of what may be announced by HTC at the MWC next month.

Yep, I was initially gonna go with this Butterfly but it looks like the HTC 'M7' could be my next phone coming from a Note. While the screen size looks to be 'only' 4.7", I would rather have improved battery life than something that becomes a paperweight after a couple of hours.

I found my HTC One X battery life was acceptable. I did some tests early on when I got my device last year and was able to exceed 4 hours screen time. I'm not sure if I just got a good battery in my unit or if my usage profile is just different.

I agree that Samsung does get better battery life out of their devices though. Really something HTC needs to work on. I had always thought the One X was at a disadvantage with the Tegra but looking at the Butterfly, perhaps HTC just don't have the right expertise to optimise power saving. Either that or they ship with cheap batteries and it's hit and miss.

HTC do make nice devices, so I'll keenly await the M7 announcement on Feb 19th and see how they fare.

Playing with the Nexus 4 recently, I believe android devices (build quality and design) overall has improved a lot.

The competition is going to be fierce over the next 2 years. It's going to be harder and harder to differentiate. Improvements in screen, camera and processor really won't add much for the average joe. I expect battery life and price will possibly become the key factors in the decision making process for purchase.

In a year my contract is up for renewal. It seems whatever top end android phone is offered then (for me to renew contract) is going to be just fine for my needs.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Does it have a IR remote built in to it as well? That is something I have thought would be handy. But only if accessible from third party apps so its full potential can be realised. Roll on MWC.
