Pentile up close. Notice the pattern especially viable in the red area.

One of the first things I notices about my S3 was that the screen looked slightly 'fuzzy'. Before I even knew what Pentile was.

I especially notice it around the edge of small text.

iPhone 4/4S display is 330 ppi but the S3 is only 306 ppi. Take into account Pentile and your luckly if you have an effective PPI rate much above 200. Comparing say a photo side by side on the S3 vs an iPhone, the iPhone (to me) is clearly a far superior screen. I've had others agree when the two are side by side. Each to their own, tho.

I find the colours of the S3 over saturated - like when you go into a TV store and they have cranked the contrast way up. There is also a very obviously flicker in the screen when viewed in bright sunlight.

I guess I like the "over saturated look" and I can say I've never seen a flicker. I don't consider the S3 as meaty as some have claimed and sometimes find myself waiting for stuff to load, and button presses delayed.

I don't disagree, and have noticed the fuzzy text a bit. But I think for the majority of things I use it for, it isn't an issue, as you don't view it that close up to notice. It is certainly a lot better than my PC screen, which are still pretty low resolution, and you can notice the pixels easily when doing design stuff.

interesting we seem to always go back to size when a new phone is introduced. I agree with myopnion in that you get used tpo it but its human nature to be uncomfortable with some change.
I recall same discussion on the S1 &2 with some iphone people saying they were too big, my friends that used that argument seem to have been exercising their fingers and they find the iphone 5 size perfect, go figure.

Technology is changing and the argument on using a phone with one hand to txt is becoming redundant as these aren't the old dumb phones and do way more. Texting will soon be a thing of the past as data plans get cheaper and people can use video or just voice to text to send a message.

I was looking at the note2 but will see what the S4 brings. As to the HTC one, given its quad core 1.7 ghz I would think that is a bit slow given what has been available for a while. The lack of ext sd is a deal breaker for me also.

The screen will always have its detractors but they have a choice in what they buy , I for one like the Samsung displays as do some of my iphone mates.

I like the screen on my Galaxy S3. I dont notice the pentile effect and I have never noticed flicker in bright sunlight. I actually like the S3. I wont buy any phone with less than 4" screen. My ideal will be 4.3" to 4.5" but no way will I buy a phone with a 5" screen. So if the S4 does have a 5" screen then I would look elsewhere when I go to replace the S3

That's a good question and I had forgotten about the talk of a samsung OS. Only my thoughts but wouldn't it make more sense for them to introduce a new OS on a totally new phone not the 'S' range being it is firmly entrenched in the android corner.

I'm quite used to Android and its quirky ways and the support that it gets from the XDA community because it is open source, would we actually get the same ability to change the look and feel of the phone.

This may be correct but unless youre a magazine editor who for some strange reason is doing photo work on their mobile phone the difference is negligible.

The S3 looks amazing if you have it set to either natural or standard, dynamic looks over saturated.

I find the iphone screen makes everything look dull and bland but that could be because my eyes are now so used to the S3.

I wouldnt go smaller than the S3 again as screen size is very important since I do so much on my phone and less on my laptop and desktop now.
Only occasionally do I find the screen too big when trying to use it with one hand and reaching the far side of the screen.

Videos on the S3 gets loads of wow comments I find.

Bada is dead, it's Tizen they'll be pushing towards if they decide to fade away from Android

My dream phone at this point would be 4.5", 1900x1080 Res, DC, LTE, Decent Battery, Mind Blowing Screen, screeds of power, SD Card, Android, unlocked bootloader with an active community developing for it.

Right now I can't see anything that works for me.

I don't want Samsung to go back to its own OS. They have a pretty long history of slow updates, poor communication and average quality control on software.

The Pixon days were terrible, though it was an awesome phone.

If they became more community interactive it would be amazing.

I'm definitely looking to upgrade both mine and my wife's phones later this year. The Xperia Z is looking fairly good at the moment, but the S4 is definitely in the running for now. The only thing that would put me off it completely is if Samsung screw around the developer community again and make it impossible for devs to release updated firmware, like what is happening with the Exynos 4-based platforms now.

I think the telling factor on the screen size will be how big the bezel is. If the screen comes right to the edges of the phone and the above/below screen sections are fairly thin, the 5" screen could end up feeling smaller than the S3's.

I believe that Samsung are only using the Galaxy naming with Android phones. Their recently-released Windows Phone 8 model went under the ATIV name along with the Windows 8 PCs and tablets. If/when Samsung release a Tizen-based phone it'll have a different name.

Interesting comparison between s3 and one x. I have a one x and played with an s3 and note last night and was quite impressed actually.
Good chance ill swing towards a note for my next. Big is good. With my one x I can touch thumb to fore finger around it so I can handle a note

It looks like a bigger camera sensor, which seems to confirm the rumour the phone to be packing 13MP sensor.
