I fixed it as Paul posted a LOOOOONG URL that the browser wasn't breaking/wrapping around.

Using a few hyperlinked words usually fixes the problem.

yeah... sorry about that. Will hyperlink next time. Just to clarify what I am seeing. The Y201 has a 3.5 inch screen and the sammy has a 2.8 inch one. The pocket has the smaller screen of the two. I am not invested in selling you the Y201, but you do not want a 2.8 inch screen in my experience!

I think that you'll find the Sony Ericcson Xperia Active is better than both those phones. I did the comparisons a few months ago when it was available for $179 at the Warehouse. Plus it's dust and water resistant and the touchscreen works with wet fingers.

I will need to go into the Warehouse store to see if they still have this phone available..because I can't seem to find it online on either on HN/NL/Warehouse so far.. maybe my searching skills aren't up to scratch.

for that price range I would look at anything from here and forget about cheap low specs big brands handsets

if you do research on devices from above link - i'm sure i will find lot's of reviews and find the one which is best for you.

I often use PriceSpy. It has almost everything in its categories.

Here's an example of a search for $200 or less mobile phone with Android 2.3+ and 3"+ touchscreen. The results are sorted from lowest price:
http://pricespy.co.nz/category.php?l=s127296187&o=produkt_pris_inkmoms#rparams=l=s127296239

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is still available for $179 but not from The Warehouse:

On reflection, I would go for a minimum of 512MB RAM so I've updated the list:

You can use GSMArena for phone reviews, specs and comparisons. For example, here's a comparison of the Sony Xperia Active and Tipo:

freitasm: What network are you going to use?

Company says.. it has to be unlocked to be used on any network and I just need the handset.

That doesn't work like that. All mobile phones sold in New Zealand are unlocked.

Some of the cheap phones will have only 900/2100 (Vodafone/2degrees) MHz WCDMA or 850/2100 MHz WCDMA (Telecom).

If you buy a 900/2100 MHz WCDMA handset it will not work on Telecom (it may work in some small areas but mostly not). The same the other way around: a 850/2100 MHz handset will not work well on Vodafone/2degrees.

So just saying "it must be unlocked" doesn't help at all.

Although Skinny is locked, isn't it? Therefore the employer is saying that they can't buy a Skinny phone?

Good point. They're locked for 9 months after which unlocking is free. It costs $30 to unlock within the 9 months so it can be factored in with the cost of another SIM.

What are you going to be using it for? Calling? Email? Other?

If you already have an S3, and are primarily going to being using this for say email, perhaps consider something with a hardware qwerty keyboard?

Just texting/calling because I can use my S3 to setup email if necessary. Yes it has to be un-locked and from the guys who had posted earlier, it's best if I buy a handset either from VF/2Degrees because of the frequency that the phone uses.

If you are just using it for texting/calling, why get a smart phone?

If you buy a non-smart phone, you can probably get significantly better battery life from the device.

I can spend up to $200 so might as well get a decent phone because the company pays for it)
