uglyb0b: The X just indicates that it is a demo only device with no sim slot, SD slot. Kind of like a WiFi only version purely for store live demo purposes.

Ahhhh, I see, thanks for the explanation, I was wondering what that X was.

Aaroona: yeah, I've checked and the models that are supplied by 2D and Telecom as well as Vodafone, are the i9505's.

This purchase is being put on hold though, cause they only have the 16GB version available, and given you cant install apps to the SD card now, it's a deal breaker.. Coming from iPhone, I have approx. ~6-8GB of apps installed. So it'll run out pretty quickly.

Ahh well, good to have an answer for anyone else potentially looking at purchasing this phone

I would recommend waiting for the 32GB internal storage ones for exactly that reason. The 16GB one has about 9GB of free space of the 16GB available to the user. For some it won't be an issue but people who play a lot of mobile games will have an issue (many games now have installs that are >1GB in size and some >2GB).

Alternately, think about getting the HTC One, which comes in 32GB internal storage and no card slot (and 64GB also, not sure about NZ availability on that one though).

+1 for the 32GB version, however the 32GB version of the I9505 is few and far between. You probably have a better chance of getting 32GB version on the international I9500. I know for a fact that it is available in Taiwan.

Alternatively would be the HTC One 64GB version which I believe you can get from here. Shipping is via DHL  only I think for extra AU$37.

No idea how exceltech are (the seller linked to above), I would get it from Mobicity who have the 64GB model in stock.

Its my understanding that although you cannot install apps directly to sd that once your phone has become full it automatically starts installing anything else you put on it onto the sd card.
Note that I read this somewhere and have not actually tried it out.

Pretty sure that is not the case with Android 4.0 or higher.

Games like Gameloft ones additionally have to download a whole lot of files, which get placed on the internal SD filling it up very rapidly. These files can't be moved to an external SD without root and a hacky app Directory Bind

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Entirely untrue, as Lokhor points out.

Cool good to know, I took it with a gain of salt when I first read it.

It's a shame it isn't true really, memory expansion is good for consumers.

With the new update that Presso linked in the S4 thread, I guess you can now move apps to the SD card? great news if it can!

Problem is though.. It looks as though now you can install the "Apps" on the SD card, but not the app data, which isn't that great either... Dunno who made the decision to do that...
