Inphinity: I'm finding it entertaining that people are referencing paying for Kies. Really, you paid for the phone. Would you have bought a different product if Kies didn't exist? It's not like Samsung promote Kies as a feature on many (if any) of their products, they know it's a decidedly flakey companion product...

Well aren't you just the smartest and smugest cookie on the block?

Kies is referenced multiple places, including software on the phone itself and the manuals the phone comes with.
It's also the only official way to update the phone if a software release is issued that isn't supported via OTA, or to restore the phone if it experiences a firmware failure.

It's a reasonable expectation that the software the manufacturer tells you to use should work.
It's a shame that it doesn't.

Yeah, it sucks that it's bad. I wish it were good. All I'm saying is, it's not the sort of 'feature', imo, you should base your purchase decisions on - and that's one of the reasons it isn't promoted in marketing material. There've been a variety of suggestions in this thread about alternative options, and while it's not ideal to have to, it's probably the best option at this point. Kies can be made to work, but you do have to baby it a lot, which is a pain. I'd love to see Kies fixed up, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I'd double check that, AFAIK it's automatic.

@old3eyes. Gmail/Google contacts sure can be synchronised. Check the phone to see that sync is allowed. Contacts and calendar are capable of being synced.

Thanks for the tip about Titanium. I've read that it's good, but it requires rooting.

Sounds it would be fun to play around with rooting and all the stuff you can do with a rooted phone at some point, but for the next year or so I'm working on a project and don't want to mess with my primary work phone. I want it covered by warranty so I can just go back to the store and ask for a replacement if any hardware problems occur. Thanks for the advice, tho, I'll keep it in mind.

Oh, and the others...

Ohhhh, did I cwiticize your favowite pwoduct and hurt your wittle feelings? I'm soooo sowwwwy!!!!

if you were referring to me then no you didn't hurt my feelings I just thought your post was more of soapboxing and you weren't really interested in others opinions but then again maybe you achieved your aim whatever it was.

The majority of posters have tried to help you maybe you should be a bit more open to it given you are only new.
