I was toying with getting one and having it shipped to NZ via Youshop even though I am in San Francisco now. This is to avoid the 9% sales tax in California.

It can't cost much to ship to NZ. Would NZ Post charage US$22 to ship to NZ?

But my daughter has a N4 bought from 2D which I gave her and after the 4.3 update it randomly shuts down which is an apparently known problem. I can't confirm it's the 4.3 update because once I got the phone from 2D, I powered it on, got the update, tested a few functions and then gave it to her over here to load up all her apps.

Slighly hijacking the thread but are any other N4 owners experiencing random shutdowns with ther N4's?

According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34279468 the shipping weight is 1.10 lbs which is about 500g, so you might get away with NZ$17.25 for the youshop shipping.

I didn't think you paid CA sales tax if it is shipped from a tax free state..

Mine cost $17 plus $6 odd insurance. I think the insurance is compulsory over a certain value.
I bought my first one no problems just after they first came out. However, a few months back I tried to get one for my wife and had my order cancelled about 7 or 8 times. Seems they have changed something as I used the exact same setup as the first with no luck. Tried changing cc address to YouShop but no luck.
V frustrating

Google is based in California so charges sales tax on all items it sells in CA

$23 is about what the local sales tax so it's probably a wash if I buy it here or ship it

This is only temporary. Stuck on the NZ one now.

Don't know what the exact time frame is, but my US access has expired. I'm pretty sure it's the same deal as when you use your device in another country.

No, been running 4.3 on my N4 with no problems at all, altough both my N4 and N7 have downloaded another 4.3 update in the last few days.

Hi, sorry to sound dumb, but when shopping on the playstore how do you get around it detecting your NZ ip, other than a VPN.

I use a dns forwarder at home for google play, so it always sees US store so thats probably why.

From my experience you need a VPN only for your first google play purchase. After that you can access the play store without the need for a vpn.

It seems googles locality authentication checks if you've previously had a successful purchase. If you have then it lets you in, if you haven't then it checks your IP and directs you accordingly.

I've made a hardware purchase in the past, I'm logged in, but I still get the "unavailable" message when I try to look at devices.
