I get two days out of my S4, maybe three if I don't use much data, or a bit under two if I use a lot of data. I have a wireless charger (will post a review in a week or so) that keeps it topped up quite well.

Getting rid of google now and a few other tweaks solved my battery problems. Get "BetterBatteryStats" and learn how to use it - partial wakelocks are a problem. Get Greenify and use that on apps as well.

I own and use Apple products extensively and love them, but can't understand why you'd want to completely change the ecosystem in which you are embedded just for the sake of battery life issues.

Try upgrading to newer Android devices - they'll be familiar but better than what you have and will not be lacking the features you will have become used to.

I went the opposite way of going from a 4s to galaxy s4 , I get a couple of days out of mine which is the same as what I used to get with the 4s. I could not go back to apple after switching over. Perhaps look at upgrading not only to help with your battery life but get a lot more functionality as well.

I just put a wireless charging device in my phone, and I have a pad at work. Great for keeping it charged, even though it lasts ages anyway - it's a toy and convenient. You could have pads at home, in your car, etc.

I got an s2 a few months back as the hardware spec suited me well. Added a Samsung 2000mah battery and recently rooted it and installed Miui v5 custom rom. Now works beautifully, full day from battery even with heavy use. Miui is lovely, stable, simple to install and best of all no bloatware wasting space and power. I plan to use the Miui app to turn down the cpu soon and see if i can stretch the battery more.

Another thing with some android devices like the s3/4 is you can either change the battery during the day. Or if the battery has lost a lot of it's capacity, you can buy a new battery. My old iphone 3gs needed to be charged twice a day. I would love to see the next iphone double battery life, or perhaps even introduce some form of solar or kinetic charging system as battery life is the number one thing that many people care about. My old nokia used to last for over a week on a single charge.

I have one of these because as soon as you train into London your smartphone battery dies in a good 3 or 4 hours due to the abundance of signals (wifi in the streets & intermittent 3G in underground) draining the battery due to intensive use of the radio receivers in your phone.
I pre-charge this at home and carry it in my pocket, when my smartphone is at 1/3rd of its capacity left I plug this in and will be able to survive the day before going home.
If that still isn't enough you could buy a 2nd one.

I also use this whilst going camping, I've managed to run a smartphone nearly 5 days by switching off WiFi & 3G at night time and re-charging once with the Duracell unit

Another way to limit battery use is to use something like Llama and set up smart location based profiles. Have it turn the radios on and off as you need them, or just do it manually. For example I have it turn WiFi and mobile data off when I leave home, because I always drive so I don't need the phone. At work I can have WiFi on but mobile data off. At home I turn both off as I use my tablet. I also have it do things like turn the phone volume up when I'm in an unknown area (it works off phone towers but can use GPS if you like), etc. Very flexible app. I also removed google now which killed battery and didn't do anything useful.

I keep all radios off unless I need them, and I have it go into airplane mode at night.

If you have not done it already I always install one-click widgets on the home page for wifi and data (Power Toggles worked well for me before I changed to Miui and worked well). As these functions use power and are constantly necessary I have got into the habit of switching them off when I don't want to be bothered. As the other poster wrote there are even apps to automate this function if you want.

I think that's a great idea but with Samsung phones wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just buy another battery!

Personally I don't see the point in having a smartphone then using it like a dumb phone hence I have a couple of batteries and one of the main reasons I use Samsung phones so I can change battery.

Changing batteries is a pain in the butt if you use a case. Plugging in for even 10 minutes give you a good boost in power. My wireless charger does a good job too.

Thanks for all the input but can anyone explain why an official update to the OS causes the Android OS to eat 35% of my frigging battery when prior to it was probably 8% Max?

I'd really like to know..

Have you worked out what is using all the power thru Android Assistant?

It's possible the update simply turned things on (like google+) you don't have on before.
