timmmay: Sounds like a small bluetooth keyboard is the best option for you.

Bluetooth is a tidy option but has it's limitations, it cannot be used on an aircraft as it's a transmitting device.

Droid 4

Droid 5 - When released

Also there is samsung galaxy relay.

Most qwerty androids you will need to import.

Personally I'd get a large screen phone and you will adjust to an onscreen keyboard quite quickly.  Go for 4.7" or larger screen.

The Bluetooth idea is nice but it's just more stuff to lug around...I may just have to hang onto my E5 then.

I agree on the issue of lugging stuff around.

I think screens much over 4" are getting too bulky.

Well, with that in mind...
If I can track down one of these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_ChaCha

(unlikely I know, but...) has anyone used one? Are they any good? Can they be updated to latest version of Android software (which is...) ?

^ wouldn't recommend cha cha, it has single core 800mhz cpu, unlikely to be upgradeable past android 2.3 gingerbread (possibly some 3rd party roms, however would still be very sluggish).

Something like the galaxy glide would be a lot better

or mytouch 4g, or what i recommended above Droid 4 / Droid 5

Thanks for the suggestion...something non-slidy would be good too (just in case)...I found this one:

portrait style keyboards are really cramped and fiddly, and will offer no advantage to an onscreen >4.3" keyboard. I would get landscape style or just an onscreen keyboard.

Try out the native swipe keyboard that was introduced in one of the recent versions of Android. Makes typing with 1 thumb faster than me using 2 with much fewer typos.

Try the Samsung Galaxy Glide i927, this is what I have, 4" screen, slide out keyboard, dual core, 8gm internal memory.
Previously I had an HTC Touch Pro2 (qwerty slider), and before that an HTC TyTN II (slider as well).

I stuck with a qwerty slider primarily for work, easier typing emails, logging into servers (SSH/putty) having full screen to view and keyboard to type, etc.

I came from an E-71 to Android. Frustrated as hell at first, until I found 'swype'. It changed my whole outlook on touch screen keypads..... and theres other similar apps like 'slide-it' & 'swiftkey' that are arguably better.

When I went from a smaller screened handset, to a slightly larger screen, I also required few days of adjustment. Probably more to do with button spacing....

Today I use 3 different devices with on screen keypads, and they're all a little different. (Right now I'm a fan of the WP-8 on screen display on my Lumia 520 rather yhan my Android ones)

In summary you will find a device and keyboard (app) that will stop you looking back.....
.....you just need to evolve. ..

I tried SwiftKey, I much prefer Swype, but it's personal preference really. Swype takes a bit of practice.

You can get slider keyboard cases for the Galaxy S3 and S4. The user interface will not be as good as a phone with an integrated keyboard though, e.g. it probably won't ditch the onscreen keyboard when the keyboard is slid out, and you have to charge it separately from the phone.

Those slider keyboard look pretty cool. They'll make the phone feel an inch thick, but might be a good option to have for when you need it.

Mmm...might have to try a slider then. I'll have a look around today.
