had it for a while now and works very well. Needed it once where I dropped/left my phone at a supermarket, got home tracked it, sent message, took photo's and watched as it went from being down road from supermarket back and dropped off at customer service where I asked them to .

People will have their favorites but it works for me.

I think it's great the police used what you gave them - the worst thing is hearing about people finding locations of devices that were stolen and not being able to do anything about it because the authorities won't act. It's good because it means that not only does it mean the criminal is found, but it also prevents people going and attempting to retrieve it themselves and vigilante justice attempts.

yeah, good to see the police acting on these things now.
last few years we have seen stories where they refuse to act, even though the evidence is incontrovertible.

The thing with cerberus is you get so much info out of it.

Their picture
What sim theyre using
what wifi networks are near them
What texts or calls theyve recently sent

All of which could be used as evidence for the police

The lifetime license is like $5 and is definitely worth it. It would be invaluble in the event your phone gets stolen

What is interesting is that, I read few cases happened in Christchurch in the past that the Police didn't act on the case when the victims reported that their devices were stolen. Despite all the evidence that the victims can collect (GPS tracking, photos from the devices etc), the statement (at the time) the police gave were that they don't recommend the victims to take it upon themselves, and requested the victims to file reports, and wait for warrants to be issued. All well and fine but sometimes these things are quite time sensitive and any delay in the time waiting for the report to be processed mean the chance of swift recovery is slipping away.

So I guess it depends on who/which region of police and whether they have the resources to help out.

I think to a large degree it also depends on the technological naus of the person you're dealing with. You are spot on with the time factor sensitivity and this is something which should be (politely) pointed out to police when reporting a smart phone theft as they can use provisions of the Search and Surveillance Act very effectively in cases like this.

I don't think I ever paid a license for Cerebus... I just downloaded the zip and put it on my phone. When/where do you pay the license?

Totally agree, as frustrated as one can be, one should not forgo politeness regardless the due stress at the time. There's only so much resources available, knowledge and procedures that the Police has to go through to get things done.

If you havnt paid for it all you'll have is a trial that wouldve expired ages ago, Unless you got a free offer or something?

There was a free Cerberus offer back when it was first new, quite a few people on geekzone picked it up so it could have been then.

As long as the app still works in the web interface that's what matters. In the past cerberus wasn't very vocal about when the trial expired.
