NZTF: I am surprised you are interested in this phone, I thought you were a Phablet fan ? I am thinking perhaps you don't intend for this to be your daily driver?

I can't tell by the specs if this thing has a FM Tuner (Hardware) or just streaming.

You are most certainly correct about my love of plus-sized phones.

This is an upgrade for the fiances S3, whose USB port she appears to have damaged in a yogurt related incident (she has needed a waterproof phone forever).

I'll just snag it for a week or something first.

Hi There!

Ah, I am just trying to convince my wife of an upgrade to an S3 from her S2 (One of the best phones ever made with the near perfect form factor and had killer specs at the time). I was somewhat unhappy with the move to
bigger form factors, but do find the higher resolution appealing.  I might want to catch a glimpse of it maybe next weekend if it arrives in time :)

Glad I'm not the only one with this plan :-)

The Z1 does, so if the chips are the same...

Pre-release price gouging and such like I expect.

I have an S2 and I got to say I love the physical dimension of the phone.  Just the right size, not too big, not too small.

Good to see Sony to put top spec hardware on a reasonablly sized phone.  Personally I prefer a slightly bigger screen like 4.5 / 4.7 inch.  Also, I am glad it comes with a microSD slot.

By the way, I just read a review from the Verge.

Sad to know the Facebook app is "included" and cannot be removed (I have not use Facebook for almost five years now).

I hope other phone makers will make top spec phones in a reasonable form factor just like Sony.  =-)

You might not be able to uninstall it, but it can be disabled in the apps section. Same with the "Walkman" app, and any other Sony apps you dont want.

I could do with a new phone, I don't even have a smart phone. How much do you reckon it will cost?

Looks like the only way to get this phone in the foreseeable future is by importing it.

$799 at mobicity, still a little eye watering in my opinion.

Hey, look at that! I go looking for local info on the Xperia Z1 Compact and find myself quoted, sort of! (I'm the 'Dion' from that Facebook message regarding an NZ launch).

Still waiting on this phone to hit the standard import stores to bring that $979 price down... I've looked at international importers like Clove but if you get stung with Customs then you end up paying $900+ anyway, so I figure I will wait a bit longer.

Have you received the phone yet? Who did you use to import it, and did you get hit with GST / customs fees?

Thanks,
Dion

About $800 landed from Clove including GST and delivery costs by my calculation.

With the trend of bigger screens it will be interesting to see how this phone is perceived value wise due to its smaller screen size.
