JarrodM: the iPhone app works a treat (apart from no winning tickets haha)

YeH, hopefully they add parts of the website In There Also for purchasing tickets etc.

BigHammer: It's so they can hear your reaction when you win the big one. O_o

If it's anything like the in-store ticket checkers, if you do win the big one it will tell you that you have to take it to a counter to check it.  Probably so that they can make sure you fill in a claim form I guess?

Clearly, they need your GPS location so if you scan a ticket and it turns out to be a Division 1 winner, they can sell your location to the media who will then promptly turn up at your house.
And they need "phone status and identity" so that if you scan a Division 1 ticket, they can get your name and address from your mobile provider and come and harrass you that way.

This may not be true of course... but with the permissions you agree to when installing the app, it is easily possible.

I will not be installing this app until they take away the need for "location" and "phone identity".

Re the permissions. How different is it to paying for your lotto purchase by eftpos? To be honest, I would rather they be able to track me down if I had won big. From what I understand, the Lotto people don't divulge any info apart from the area/shop where the winning ticket was sold without consulting the winner first.
