For me Z2, or if a bigger phone is in order the Note 3.

Would also say for less money the G2 is a very fine phone.

Ultimately there is no best phone, only the one that offers the best constellation of features for your needs with the fewest compromises for your needs. That will vary from person to person, for me I land on the two I mentioned, however the M8 and S5 are still very worthy of consideration amongst the top echelon (although the only stated need you gave was the camera and that probably knocks the M8 out of the running, despite its otherwise wonderful conglomeration of qualities).

Another one for the Note 3. Plus being a nice big screen the camera is quite good too. Used it in a recent OE trip. Lot of my friends couldnt believe the pics I took came from a cellphone camera

Love my S4. I wouldn't want a phone without a hardware button on the front.

I did that to a Sony Ericsson flip phone a few years back that had irritated the heck out of me and I lost my normal calm unflappable self

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

KiwiNZ: I would say the HTC One(m8) or the Sony Z2

Those two and maybe One+ One, if you could get an invite that is.

I personally dislike Samsung's S series, or in general due to their bloatware and unnecessary gimmick. Would consider if loaded with google play / vanilla android. And even so, their plastic feel feels cheap next to say HTC one. My 20c.

i have a Sony z1 and I wouldn't swap it for anything, I had an s4 for a few months prior to getting this, note 2 prior to that. things I like,  hardware camera button, fantastic camera water and dust  friendly.

networkn: Well I have owned the S5 and M8, the S5 wins for me as the s4 did over the m7. I have had the Sony in my possession for a week and couldn't "gel" with it. It's an ok device, but didn't give me that wow feeling.

My vote with 50 smartphones ownership experience is the S5

+1

Having had my S5 for a week I can say it is indeed slightly better than my previous S4. Both were work phones so I have no emotional attachment to them. They simply just work.

I believe there's still a market for an android with a clean exterior and UI feel for business users though.

You can actually get it with stock Android.  It's called the Galaxy S GPE (GPE stands for Google Play Edition).  No Touchwiz, no pre-loaded apps.  Not sure where you can get one though in NZ.

maybe better to say why you would buy a certain phone  instead of why you won't another.
