For a different experience to the Android norm, I'd possibly buy something like that for the youngest daughter. That way it doesn't matter if I don't like it, and it doesn't bother me if she doesn't like it!

At least if I get Android I can load any apps I've already paid for and I know I can get the apps to do what I need.

Thanks, but not really. Very entry level unit. 512MB RAM and only about 2GB user accessible internal storage. Not really usable as a secondary phone unless I was only going to use it for phoning and sending/receiving SMS messages, which isn't the case.

We've been angling towards the likes of the Moto G etc because they are absolutely usable in place of the primary Note 3.

NZtechfreak: In that price range - Z Ultra!

Regards Xperia Z Vs Moto G LTE I would probably take the Moto G myself, regardless of the specs sheets (if it's to be a secondary device, if the camera was important that might push me a little more towards the Sony, although the camera there is nowhere near as good as specs would suggest).

If you could find a second hand Z1 Compact in that kind of price range I'd recommend that without reservations as something compact and offering a different experience to the Note. It's available new locally for as little as $469, so secondhand may be possible to find one ~$400.

Oneplus might merit consideration? Nexus 5 or LG G2?



After looking in to the Xperia Z1 Compact a little more, I think you've sold me on it. A bit more than I was looking at spending, but I think it'll be worth it.

As the Z1 Compact doesn't seem to be available through official channels here, has anyone bought Sony devices from local parallel importers and if so who do you recommend? Thinking Parallel Imported Albany (they're back down to only one store I see) or Expert Infotech in Glenfield?
