BigPipeNZ: I'm getting sick of having to fish my phone out of my pocket every time I want to know what time it it.

Some kind of device on my wrist that could replicate that smartphone function would be really useful.

Like a "watch"?

I see the Sony store is selling the SW2 for $199 at present

End of life, with the SW3 announced using Android Wear. So that makes 3 now.

I jumped on the early backer bandwagon after seeing a preview for the Kreyos Meteor - first and only time I'm likely to do that again.

For some bizzare reason, despite all the professional looking preview and hands-ons at CES etc - its a complete failure. Production version nothing like the demo, and infact a step backward disabling most the boasting features (and a year late)

Not waterproof
No cross-platform support
No 7-day battery
And most their post-sales support staff have now quit.

Consider myself burned and shall await the price war to break out on the mainstream ones.

For me, I wouldn't. Forget the functionally, I don't want to worry about the battery life of my watch as well as my cell phone.

simple then really don't buy one they aren't for everyone nor are they a necessity. It will be interesting to see how far they progress but, and I'm guessing here, I see they likes of Google Glass as being the way of the future where you can do away with both watch and phone.

Thanks for all the responses and the links, it has made for interesting reading.

When it boils down to it I just don't need to be that connected so a smart watch is not for me.

As others said, notifications and so on are all good, and why I bought a Pebble.

One unexpected benefit is music control. I plug my phone into my car head unit AUX input (no BT :( ) and then can skip to the next song using my watch.

Also good that my watch buzzes when it loses BT connectivity to the phone... no more accidentally leaving the phone behind :)

I love my pebble! All smart watches should be e ink, no point having a qhd display on a 1.5 inch display!
