Thanks for the encouragement. A new problem seems to have raised its head with the latest update to the Wear phone app breaking the connectivity to either of my watches. Multiple complaints on Google's Wear forum. May start a new topic since this affects all Wear users.

Enjoying your posts. Am a bit of a fan of Sony kit - currently driving Xperia Z2, Duo 11 laptop, Xperia Z tablet, Sony e-reader (though about to retire this for the new Kobo Glo HD - pity Sony dropped out of the e-reader space).

Am yet to be convinced of the merits of wearables, but that said, of all on market, the Sony appeals most - so thanks for posting your real world experience, appreciated.

I'm enjoying the posts in this thread too. I haven't decided on a smart watch yet but will be keeping half an eye on developments over the next 6 or so months. What phone/ROM are running?

Watches are connected to an HTC One (M7) running stock (rooted) 4.4.3 and waiting for Lollipop to arrive. Having a few problems trying to get "watchmaker" to load on my GWR, all good on my SW3 though.

Dingbatt: I see at Sony's pre CES press conference they have announced, amongst a lot of other tech, that they are releasing a stainless steel SW3 and also a new enclosure for existing SW3s that will allow for changing out the existing strap for a regular one. The new SS one looks quite nice but I am intrigued by the possibility of using standard 22mm watch straps.

Received a stainless steel from Sony today. Charging and tomorrow taking to a watch place to adjust the strap - one inconvenience of the model. It comes with extra links in case it needs to be larger - in my case it needs to be smaller.

Installed Facer and Launcher on recommendation of this thread. Shame no heart rate but it should be good.

I will be interested to see how you find the painted plastic surround stands up to every day use. I guess it is a little perplexing why the watch that looks the most like a fitness band doesn't have a heart rate monitor. But if my GWR is anything to go by, the heart rate monitors are pretty useless anyway.
Other apps I have loaded are wear mini launcher and calendar. Also Wear Tasker if you have Tasker on your phone. Because the SW3 has things other watches don't, like GPS and NFC I wish Sony had gone to the effort to develop their own companion app tomake use of that.
I am still trying to find more out about the light sensor because it doesn't seem very effective at the moment.

Mauricio, if you got your watch from someone at Sony NZ, can you ask them when the metal strap and strap holder announced months ago are going to be available to those of us that have supported the SW3 from the beginning?

What the NFC is good for? As in what apps you can use it?

I've had a Smartwatch 3 for a few months now. Hanging out for the improvements the Android 5.1.1 update are bringing - especially WiFi sync - but find it a surprisingly compelling piece of kit as-is. The battery life is much better than expected, and thanks to the full sized micro USB port + Snapdragon chipset, it charges absurdly fast when connected to a Quick Charge adaptor. Can watch the percentage shoot right up, and it's all done in about 20mins. May not have the 5-7 day battery life of a Pebble, but ~3 days is manageable when charge times are this low.

Primarily using it just as a watch as I don't always have a paired Android device with me (And my prototype unit is a bit finicky about pairing with new devices without a factory reset).

The standalone GPS & onboard storage for music are quite welcome, although I do need to borrow a BT headset to make use of the latter. Suspect this one will be a good choice for folks looking for futureproofing as the NFC et al are likely to be more useful come future updates.

I didn't spend much time with it on 4.x as my sample had early software with a few bugs, but WiFi is not present in 5.0. To be introduced properly in 5.1 in the coming weeks, along with some other nice features.

NFC at the moment is limited to starting the watch or opening the Wear App. But, early days. Just like having GPS and Wi-Fi onboard I am hoping it is utilized more fully in the future. Might be a vain hope considering how quickly devices are abandoned by OEMs and developers.
