Hrrmm I wonder if you could lodge a CGA complaint and get your phones replaced now that the device is no longer fit for purpose. If a car manufacturer found a defect in a billion cars and was all "Nah mate, not fixing it, just buy a new one" they would be crucified by the government.

I was wondering about that post. I had a good run with Win phone it was only the App situation that made me change. I would return in a flash.

I'm going to go with MS on this. No upgrade path from 7.8 to 8.x, and the pathetically short lifecycle support of 18 months for 7.8. Points I did raise with our PFE last year. I don't necessarily expect the same lifecycle as a full desktop/server OS, but I do expect a longer support lifecycle. 36 months is a step in the right direction but my personal feeling is it should be about 5 years, particularly if MS want to position Windows Phones as an enterprise/corporate device.

WP8 -> has a support lifecycle for minimum of 3 years for the OS and security updates

8.1 will get an upgrade to Threshold, we will talk about this next week on Thursday http://news.microsoft.com/windows10story/

Phone 7.x was a different OS based on older hardware technology and WindowsCE not the NT kernel that was technically impossible to upgrade to WP8

still interested to know how many have been hacked by this exploit are we talking millions, thousands??? and what has actually happened to them after exploited.
