Krishant007: Google just announced their Google Pixel C this morning - this will definitely be worth the wait i reckon

I'm keen to learn more about this device, I'm curious if this is a hint to the beginning of a slow death for ChromeOS

zyo: Zenpad S 8.0 (199USD cheaper version)

Reason - buy from Amazon and is below import tax threshold, good screen and more than adequate spec for the next 2 years. front facing speaker. Above average build quality.

If I want to buy a media consumption device, I wouldn't spend more than 300 NZD on a tablet

This does look like a very nice device - only downside seems to be the bloatware but that's removable or at least able to be disabled

About $330NZ inc delivery I think

Keep chatting guys.
I swore I would never own an iPad, but there is considerable pressure from other family units to get one as I'm the only one that doesn't so I cant do Facetimes, or offer Apple support!
I have looked with some envy at the Surface3 for a while but was hesitant with the whole Win10 thing rolling out.
I get the argument that Windows updates have a better life-cycle than Android, where devices get left behind.

I absolutely hate the argument "get an Apple device so you can Facetime" - it goes against so many principles of open standards and interoperability.  What if you could only phone people who had the same make of phone as you?  Or only email people on the same OS?  Especially when there are so many free communications apps that will do everything Facetime can, but cross-platform.  Tell your family to get Skype.  Or Google hangouts.  Or whatsapp.  Or Facebook messenger.....

So - Apple's entire device and software strategy? Do it our way or piss off?

I have been weighing up what to replace my Note 8 with as it is getting frustratingly slow and is stranded on 4.4.2. I have been looking at the Tab S2 and Tab A from Samsung. I like the amoled screen on the S2 but not sure if that is enough justification to spend the extra over the A. The 10 inch Tab A comes with an S-Pen, which i use just often enough on my Note 8 to be a positive feature.
Certainly the S2 is really thin and super light which makes it easy to hold in one hand for long periods. It almost feels flimsy because of its weight but all reports indicate it is well built.
I will be interested to what the OP decides to get.

My wife bought the TAB A  because of the stylus.   The screen is OK    But you can see  it's limitations when reading text on some sites.  Last week I bought the http://tap-that.co.nz/tablets-phablets-hybrids/androidtablets/retina-9-7inch-octocore-android-tablet.html  which was advertized here to replace my nexus 7  that hasn't been the same since updating to lollipop..  For it's price it's not too bad. full HD screen and 3G..

Careful with that 3G though as I believe it doesn't support the correct frequency/bands for Spark.

This.

I see it as the ideal solution. For me.

I would agree with those. although a surface over a surface pro maybe enough. I would only go with the ipad pro i I was using it for drawing on, or using the pen in another way. The ipad air 2 IMO is the best consumption tablet ever after the ipad 2(which is still getting ios updates), and apple should continue to provide updates for it for several years. I also do like the Nexus tablets, as they have pure android by default

The husband has a Samsung S2 (10"). Its a nice unit but I thought there would be something newer and flasherer since then.
I'm leaning towards a Surface Pro because my laptop isnt getting any younger either.
I think I could do without an optical drive.
Are they selling with Win10 on board yet?

I have the original Surface Pro and it's okay but if budget permits I would upgrade to the SP3 (or maybe 4?).

For Android I still use my Nexus 7 (2013) which I find almost perfect for mobile use viz. e-mail, surfing the net and watching video content online such as from my server and Netflix, Amazon etc.

Even with Lollipop it hasn't slown down and I think it's on the list for Marshmallow.

I still even have my original Motorola Xoom in use which I rooted and flashed with TeamEOS.

It sits in a dock in my family room showing a clock :-) It's connected via HDMI to my TV so I can display content from the device on the TV for apps that don't support Chromecast like the ITV player and also connects apps  to that same TV using  a Chromecast.  Finally I stream Google Music on it via HDMI to my AVR. There's life in the old girl yet :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Microsoft's announcement of the Pro4 and new Book puts a different spin on things.
Maybe the price of Surface3's will come down?
