I have a Galaxy J5 which has replaced an HTC M7. I put a good quality 64GB Micro SDCard into it and it's working very very well.

I have the camera set to put everything on the SDCard so the main storage is free for apps etc.

Performance is better than the M7 and the camera is amazing. The front camera has a flash as well which is very cool.

Hard to beat the price of the J5 imho. Good quality screen, replaceable battery etc.

linw: Guys, guys, you said a BUDGET phone and then you go wanting top specs for the budget price. Sheeesh.

yeah, but noone has mentioned anything outrageously outside the budget.

will the J5 handle candy crush and does it have a similar keyboard to the galaxy s6, thats all the mrs really needs.

The Huawei P8 Lite also seems to pack a fair bit of good tech into a budget $300 phone.

You've mentioned the G3 as an option, and I'd suggest this is going to offer a far better experience than a more modern but cheaper phone like the Samsung J5. It's pretty much within budget at $455 including shipping (http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=2661802) and offers 4x the storage.

Even though I'm not a fan personally, for that sort of money I'd still go for a S4 or S5 rather than something cheaper like the J5 - the extra $100-$150 will be repaid in that you'll not need/want to replace it as quickly!

I've been looking at cheaper phones offering decent performance for my wife, and I decided there's no current NZ-sourced model in the lower price range that offers excellent value for money (other than perhaps those two popular Vodafone models, neither of which was suitable), given the previous king of this space - the Moto G - is now so expensive. While I went for a cheaper Chinese-sourced alternative (Redmi Note 2), if I hadn't done this I'd have gone for a previous generation flagship, probably the G3 (given I have one and love it).

Do all galaxies use the same keyboards, ie will the keyboard on the J5 be the experience as on the S6?

Yes. But you can have many keyboards on Android. All our phones and tablets use SwiftKey.

i think its the vibrate when touching a key on the s6 that the partner liked.

aside from the vodafone ultra there really isnt a good quality budget phone out there. just a darn shame it doesnt work on XT.

on the other hand the samsung J2 is only $130 and despite 1GB of ram, as long as you dont have a lot of apps open it seems smooth enough.
