I'll be interested to see how this pans out, waterproof and SD card, are big draws, along with potentially more power and better battery life. Having said that, I got a Note 5 recently as part of an insurance claim on an S6 Edge, and I LOVE it. I don't like the extra weight, but I don't notice the extra size and enjoy the screen. It's the first Samsung in a good long while I haven't detected any lag from.

I don't use then pen much, but like it for when I do want to use it.

Agree on the unecessary comment comment, there is a growing trend here to do it and every time I see someone do it, I feel like hitting them with a cluebat. (No offense Finch).

im picking it will be samsung edge by default, new platform backing qualcomm, 530 GPU, 4GB ram minimum. id be flabbergasted if it doesnt have a gasket for dust/water sealing, a lot of mid range phone 2015 did it which was a bit of a disappointment about Samsung s6.

im wondering how much the S6 will drop by day 1 now that you can get it for $700. Probably $600, making it just beyond the range of those looking for mid range, but a good option.

My pet peave with galaxy is the OS, I wish they could just do without a skin and be like Motorola. Its one of the worst implementations over the top of android imo.

Love the phones, hate the UX of the UI.

Well I'd have to say I disagree about recent versions of Samsung Launcher/Shell. I recently had a Nexus 6P and I disliked Vanilla Android a lot. (The phone was awesome but no match for a Note5) If you don't like the Samsung Launcher, there are plenty of cheap and free alternatives.

If they do a big one like they did with the S6 I might swap my note4 for it. Never use the pen on it, but dont want a small screened phone.

What do you think the Note 4's worth now days?

I have the same and keen on the S7 Edge if the rumors are true..

mudguard: For those using dual sim phones, what is the reason to do so?

I have a Vodafone number that I've been using for about 10 years. But 2Degrees has much cheaper data around Auckland.

So I have the Vodafone SIM in my dual-SIM One Plus 2 phone set to VF for voice and txt and the data set to 2Degrees.

I was also overseas several months last year and I had my Spark SIM in one slot....roaming and a local SIM in the other slot for cheap local data. That way, people calling me from NZ (or at least, on my NZ number) can reach me easily and at the same time I can make calls and use data on the other SIM.

Dual SIM is great also if you want a home / personal number that's private and a work number that's customer facing...and you don't want to be juggling phones.

yep each to their own. imo of all the brands ive had the Sony was the lightest shell UI. What I did like about the samsung was the keyboard, it bought back the feeling of a tactile button, which sold us one edge (the Mrs).

But yeah, I do like vanilla android. Also nexus and motos get faster updates for obvious reasons.

I think the samsung saved itself with the latest release. But I think phones will come down in price in general. IMO the flagships are $200 over priced. Just an opinion. But I think that is set by apple. A$ is always expensive and in my experience very unreliable and costly to fix (dont mention MB pro chargers to me, agggh)

So Samsung's "Unpacked" announcement event is at 7am Monday morning (NZ time), with LG's pre MWC announcement 4 hours earlier. I certainly won't be setting my alarm to be awake at 3am, but I will probably check in on both announcements while I have breakfast.
Samsung are making a big thing of their 360 VR broadcast of their event. Anything had to be better than the embarrassing cringe-fest of their launch of the S4 in NYC a few years ago.

I'm looking forward to the announcements with interest.

I have an elderly Galaxy S3 that is well overdue for an upgrade, and would have got the S6 if Samsung hadn't done away with the S5's waterproofing and removed the microSD slot. Taking away the ability to swap the battery was also an annoyance.

The rumours for the LG G5, which is being announced around the same time also look interesting. I was close to getting the G4 a couple of months ago.

Due to the coming Samsung event at MWC 2016 I have changed the thread title as requested.

I am attending a local event in Auckland this Monday morning and will post more (probably will be AFTER the MWC anyway).

I will of course be interested in seeing what the S7 is all about however will be sticking with my S6. Love my S6 and not worried about needing a SD card. Next jump for me would probably be the S8.

Well so far its quite limited what i have done apart from disable everything. I also got the latest software and installed it so it wasn't patched from the factory firmware.

The biggest killer was google now and facebook in the background. I just use mobile data no wifi, gives me a little longer.

Still - My iPhone 6S was far better in terms of life.
